Aged Strat Relic.
Firstly If you're here to hate on relics then what the hell are you doing in a thread with relic in the tittle? If you dislike them so much then I don't understand why you read threads about them?
Ibanezcollector makes some nice relic jobs to Strats and he always makes a realy good thread about the guitars he's modified so I thought I would share one I've modified with you all.
I'll post up some traditional photos shrtly but here's a youtube link that gives you pictures and sound -

In all seriousness though, all comments are welcome.

I don't hate relics. I just don't understand them. It totally mystifies me why someone would do this. Ibanezcollector told me that it's just a matter of getting a vintage look and feel for much less money, but for me, if it's not real, it's worthless.
Your
strat relic
looks nice, and is that you playing it in the video? Nice work and the guitar has a nice sound. Hope someone digs it and gives you many pounds for it!

If you're into that vintage vibe then you might appreciate my playing and the work I've done but if you're not then you're prolly in the wrong thread.

Are you baiting relic haters so you can tell them to go read some other thread?

i love the playing and tone, but the 'fast legato' thrown into the licks takes away from the nice phrasing.. just an opinion, but lose the shreddiness and id say A1 blues

I'm just trying to avoid what Ibanezcollector has to put up with every time he shows one of his relics. We both state clearly in the thread title that it's about a relic yet people still post up the same "I hate relics, they're stupid" comments. I don't understand why people do that? I'm not into Jazz and if a saw a thread with Jazz in the title I probably wouldn't visit it, never mind go there just to say "Oh, I totally don't get Jazz? It's like they dragged the music behind a truck."

Ben,
did you change the pickups? I got to say that the video sounds (and looks) really good!

Re: Aged Strat Relic.
Nice job. It would look more like a '66 Strat with the correct 3 ply, 11 screw pickguard. The headstock is the correct shape, but should have vintage split post tuners, 1
string tree
and no
truss rod
hole at the nut.
For a budget Squier to Fender conversion it looks and sounds great.

Re: Aged Strat Relic.
It's sound uberstratty, so you've accomplished that, but, maybe it's youtube, I think you did a very light relic job on it, I couldn't even tell at first.
Hmmm.

Re: Aged Strat Relic.
I think Strat & Teles relics are the only cool relics out there and the only ones I would consider buying. I know it is not completely true, but it just looks like they would play better and sound better even though it is purely cosmetic, they just are so damn cool.

The pickups are the stock Squier ones. I've only left them in because they've got so much tone. Usually I'd swap to a pre-wired Fender board but this one sounded nice so there didn't seem any point.

Agreed but when you're trying to keep the price right down corners have to be cut somewhere.

Hmmm.
You're right, it is a fairly light relic compared to most you see. When you look at photo's of genuine 66 Strats though they don't seem to be in much worse shape (in general). I liked Ibanezcollectors' because it was going for a specific feel and direction but a lot of people out there can be too heavy handed in their relics (imho).
PS Sorry, I can't get the multi quote thing to work.
