American Telecasters, tech diffs between models for my building pleasure
next year i'm hoping to build a Tele.. American Telecaster style.(22 frets, 43mm nut, C shape neck etc)
wondering if anyone knows the differences between certain teles.
i've noticed on 21 fret teles there's more of a gap between bridge and pickguard, can someone confirm the bridge simply moves up a small amount to intonate and fill the gap on a 22 fretter thereby meaning all tele pickguards are the same..?
or is there more difference in pickguards and bridge placement?
also, the American being a 43mm nut and 22 frets, is the neck pocket any different to another standard tele(21 frets, 42mm nut)?
and any
body shape
diffs or anything else(body related)?
i'm looking at these templates..
e-bay item 260192059814
http://www.guitarbuildingtemplates.c...etemplates.htm
i'm leaning towards the ron kirn template after asking him some questions about it first..
Cheers!!

if anyone simply knows whether the pickguards are all the same or something would be great...

Re: American Telecasters, tech diffs between models for my building pleasure
Checking Fender's website would probably be the best, but Leo was big on having all his parts interchangeable. Im working on a project tele right now and havent had any issues getting parts that fit. I ordered a US pickguard and it lines up with my Light Ash Tele pickguard fine. The on ly problem I;ve come across was the part that holds the jack in is bigger than the hole, so I need to route that a bit.

Cheers Elcid
i couldn't find any specs on it on fenders site.
are you saying your light ash a 21 fret and the US one is like on american teles(22)?
that's basically what i'm starting to think, i looked over a squier tele last night which has about the same measurements as a 21 fret fender.. and the gap between pickguard and bridge seems like all i'd need to get the right intonation

I worked for a Fender dealer for years and made a few partsocasters, I have never seen different part numbers from Fender for a 21 fret or a 22 fret pickguard. They just have one tele pickguard that is available in different colors

I don't think that the bridge placement has to change between 21 and 22 fret models. So the pickguards will be the same. It's the position of the saddles that effects the scale and intonation and there is lots of room for the saddles to move forward and back.

Elcid are you putting in an electrosocket? They are a big improvement over the original tele
input jacks

Yeah I decided to try one of those. I never had a problem with the other jacks, but since this is a project I figured I would try the electrosocket and see how I like it.

Re: American Telecasters, tech diffs between models for my building pleasure
cool, thanks guys
Rotti- you're right but the bridge placement is definitely different between 22 and 21 teles, i was just wondering if other things changed too, but i guess it fits the gap.
i know it's the saddles that matter but the 22 placement also looks better to me.
now i just need to figure out the neck pocket stuff sometime..

I believe Fender do 22
fret necks
like Warmoth - the 22nd fret sits on a little cantilevered part of the fingerboard which overhangs the pickguard.
