Any Jackson Guru's here? Need info

Hi, have a friend who has a Jackson and is trying to get info on it, I figured somebody here might be able to help.
It's painted with lip prints on it (ok, to me that screams 80's LOL) and it has San Dimas California next to the serial. bolt on neck.
Here's the catch... I've read that they stopped making the San Dimas at 5400 serial, but his is 6111. Anybody know of a serial # web site where you can date Jacksons?
Anybody familier with this guitar?
Also, The warranty card says model # Strat Style, # 5245 (even though it really looks more of a soloist style).

Just thought I'd see if anybody could put a year to this one. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Definately an early 80's model.
W/O pics its hard to say but im betting its a 1981 model considerring there was a serial number flaw in that year
1981: range 1001-10095

hope it helps

i could better tell if i had the guitar..
have him look inside the heel and the spring plate cavity.. usually some writing in there...

i beleive the early San Dimas Models were only bolt ons....¿?

If its not a bolt on, then the only other place to look is in the spring cavity or under the pups.....

it's a 1988 strat made in ontario...true charvels were stopped around 5400 but your friends neckplate should say jackson not charvel...also there was a surplus of san dimas plates when they moved the factory to ontario...www.jacksonguitars.com has a serial number list on their resources page...sounds like a nice guitar...d.m.

no offense but you cant claim with any certainty of that being the year esp with the serial number discrepancy from production year 1981.
unless you built it at Jackson,(& my bad if so) don't say "this is what it is" with certainty..
your claim is even more ambiguous than mine...

Only a true ascertation of the instrument can be obtained if we can examine it for ourselves...

there were no bolt-on jacksons made before late 85...80-85 bolt-ons were charvels , jacksons were neck-thru's...thus the different names....bolt-on jacksons came into existence when jackson (grover) sold the charvel name to imc...the easiest way to determine what year it is to look at the shape of the headstock...an 80 would pretty much be guaranteed to be a strat headstock...d.m.

I stand somewhat corrected on that issue, i was thinking Charvel on the model til i looked at the post again and saw Jackson..
thus yes, that is correct.
if it were a San Dimas Charvel, it would be an 81 model...

*tips hat*
