Anybody check out Bernie Rico Jr. Guitars yet?

Since there are a lot of great guitars on here and I, too, really love JEMs - I was wondering if you guys had a chance to check out Bernie's stuff yet. I bought the very first Jekyll 627 27-fret from him. His guitars are amazing - they have that cross between the old Hamer Californians and the Ibanez RGs. His woods are highest quality and options are damn near limitless.

Re: Anybody check out Bernie Rico Jr. Guitars yet?

Thanks guys... Actually, no locking nut at all. This was a prototype built for me and Bernie put on an Earvana (www.earvana.com) Compensated nut with Sperzels. It still stays in tune just fine...

His site is www.ricojrguitars.com and mine is www.xanderdemos.com.

The horns on the guitar are sort of like RGs in a way - sharp and aggressive looking. Overall though, it is just so smooth. Almost "too easy" to play - if there is such a thing!

Nope, I'm not kidding. I like the design of a few, but I still wouldn't pay that much for a guitar unless Satch, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn or Kiko Loureiro actually played it.

I'd pay about $1000-1500 for some of them.

The coolest thing about them is that they offer the 27 fret option (as well as 24 fret) with having a 25.5" scale. I have a McNaught that has a 25" (like a PRS) but most of my other guitars (Steinberger GS, Ibanez JEM, Suhr Modern, Brian Moore MC/1, and my Bernie Rico) all have the longer scale. Bernie is a boutique builder right now but that may change down the road. I saw one online store that had a nice Floyd-equipped, twin humbucker 24-fret model for $1795. Not bad for that quality of a guitar!

They look nice but in my opinion the price is way too high. clubshred, this is off topic but you post a pic of the mcnaught? It's one of the only "companies" that I like .

You don't need a locking nut if you have locking tuners. Just another annoyin' obstacle when you need to do setups/change strings. My first custom guitar has a Schaller Floyd without a locking nut (and locking Sperzels), and I think I tune it like once a week, and even then it's just like a minuscule turn of each tuner. I'm a heavy trem user, and no problem-o.

Wow!! I had a Cravin in the past for a very short time with a Floyd and Sperzels and the damn thing would never hold a tuning. I've been against that combo ever since...
