Anyone tried the new 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded
They seem really well priced at appr. $1500 and I was wondering if anyone has played one? How do they compare to other
Les Pauls
and why are they priced so much cheaper? Is there a catch I can not see?

Re: Anyone tried the new 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded
Its just a satin finish that saves a lot of labor, so the cost is cheaper

It looks really nice to my eyes. A lot better than many of the other finishes. No other changes from an LP Standard then?

Nope, I almost bought one yesterday, and I have all kinds of Les Pauls.

I like the satin finish, I'm just not strong enough to hold a LP for any length of time.

Might be the best deal you can get on a new
Les Paul
.

Wish they weren't so heavily chambered though!

They had to, too many people were crying that they were too heavy. Ruined it for everyone.

Yeah, they did.
Good thing used Les Pauls are a dime-a-dozen. I played quite a few good ones up in Nashville, even a rather expensive Murphy (but I can't justify $10,000!). A Les Paul is definitely next on my list though.

I thought the same thing, but all the "cork sniffers" on the Les Paul forum have changed their tune after people started to play them. The thinking line is that the current models have a consistently good sound whereas the '70s-'80s were "hit or miss".
YMMV

I got one couple month ago, new. great tone. no issues, and the faded are great. couldn't find omne with a 60's neck.

Actually having chambered body Les Pauls are not bad at all. Les Paul Supreme sounds good enuff and being much lighter too.

Re: Anyone tried the new 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded
Gibson drop the '60s neck version of the faded for whatever reason.
The next Les Paul for me is going be either a '60s reissue or a white custom.
Or both...

You can spend a lot more than $489 if you want. But your just buying a name.
