My vote has to go to any of the PRS SE's, absolutely awesome necks. Everything about them belies their price range by at least a couple hundred.

The OLP models are always good for the money, the Yamaha Pacifica range is always very good too.

Re: Best CHEAP Guitar

how cheap does it have to be and what kind of style guitar are you looking for?
well I would go with something like a Yamaha Pacifica 112. either that or something by Vintage, I played some of the Vintage strat and les paul copies recently and I thought they very good quality guitars.

+1 on the inexpensive Yamaha. RGX-A2 can be picked up cheap, and the Pacifica's are great for the money.

Re: Best CHEAP Guitar

Will they let you keep the guitar with you? I was in the Army here, and during basic training they take all your belongings away from you (clothes and everything). I don't think they'll even let you take a guitar here.

My vote's against that. I tried several of these, and, personally HATED them. I mean, I played crap-cheap guitars, back in the 80s, that played as good or better than these. I thought the necks were an absolute joke. Bummer, too, cause I really wanted to like them, but just couldn't bring myself to.
