Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played
I have heard that the Les Paul's have an excellent tone (usually Maple tops on a
Mahogany body
). I think that would be the "57" edition or something along those lines. The stock pickups on those guitars are pretty excellent. Also, I've played some fabulous sounding Fender Strats, especially for heavy blues- the telecaster hollow body sound amazing as well (the ones that you see people like Doug Gilmour of Pink Floyd uses on songs like "Coming Back to Life", for example). Again, stock pickups made by Fender sound excellent. For me, however, I own two Lado Earth's 2002 and 2004. These are the best for what I play. They aren't necessarily a "one trick" pony, either, but not as versatile as the Fenders. I love my Lados because the sustain out of a neck-thru body made of solid curly maple (Tiger Maple) is amazing. Having them set up with the Lado distortion humbuckers is pretty good, actually. I opted for
Seymour Duncans
all the way around, instead, though and I'm super pleased with the sound. Stay away from JB in the Bridge, too icepick on a solid maple body. I use the distortions, which are perfect for metal. You might go with a Jazz or a JB in the neck.

Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played
I don't think I've found that "one" yet, but so far the two that come to mind right off the bat are a Gretsch Duo Jet and a
Fender Custom Shop
strat (not sure which one).

Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played
Yes, sorry is it
David Gilmour
? Okay, you get the idea. I'm only a mild Floyd fan. A bit too nebulous and "artsy" for my taste, but they have some beautiful tunes, just the same.

Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played
I'd have to say that every axe in my collection has a tone that I love. Why would i have them otherwise? Right now I keep bouncing between my Jem7wh, my Custom spalted maple and mahogany first act with triple p90s and a bigsby and my gretcsh hollowbody with TV jones pickups. I know. Pretty diverse guitars. The best way to describe the first act is a strat on steriods only with more pickup options. It even has some humbucking tones too. I run everything into my Carvin Legacy amp.

Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played
Schiaffer....a
Lado Earth
huh? I could of gotten one of those back in the
day for $350 at the GC in LA. I really wish I had of.....I've been looking
for one for a while now. As far as the topic goes, two that come to mind
are a lawsuit Ibby V I had that I dropped a
Dimarzio Super Distortion
in.....
it sounded great, and was one of those guitars that when you hit a chord,
you could almost feel the vibration perfectly even all the way through it....
if that makes any sense. I also had a Hamer Sunburst, back in 82 or 83
with Zebra pups....probably duncans that sounded fantastic. Right now
my best sounding ones are either my Chrome Yamaha 1221 MS,or believe
it or not my Jackson PC-3 with an EMG 81 in the bridge and EMG SA in the
neck.

My PRS Custom 22 is up there. It's hard for me to pick one guitar out of so many.

Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played
My Lado Earth:
Even though Duncan JB's are in there (too shrill), I hope to have a
Super Distortion
in there at some point. They don't fit in there at the moment.... the body needs more routing or the pickup bases need to be grinded down a bit. By my experience, Super Distortions have done very well in every tone-wood I've put them in so far (mahogany, mahogany w/maple, basswood, alder); they should be brilliant in this maple-wood Lado.
P.S. My apologies for the Hawaiian shirt.
Cheers
