Hi. I thought you guys might get a kick out of this. About 4 years ago, a friend gave me a black & white Hondo Strat copy. I almost immediately started changing it because it reminded me of my second guitar which was a B&W
Squier Strat, which I hated and actually went on to trade in on my first Ibanez.
I always loved EVH's Frankenstrat, so I chopped up the pickguard and threw a humbucker in it, taped it up as faithfully as I could and painted it. Well, that got old after awhile, so I decided to route it out for a Floyd and went one step further and cut it out like a JEM lion's claw and cut a handle in it. The first picture is a collage showing the original, Frankenstrat, then stripped down and then the white base coat after the routing. Sorry the pics aren't that good. Crappy camera.
Then I swirled it in blue, purple and black and made a pickguard out of plexiglass and painted it black from the back.
I drilled out the original white plastic fret dots and put clear blue beads in their place then sanded them down flat.
Then I chopped up the big ugly Hondo headstock into a small ugly
pointy headstock, painted it flat black and changed the name to "RockBlock Custom"
And here she is all put together
Right now she sports an Ibanez IBZUSAF2 Humbucker and 2 old Aria Pro II single coils I've had for years. It sounds pretty good except for major interference from my PC's CRT in the pups. The Floyd is from an 80's Kramer and surprisingly, even after all that cutting and routing and installing the locking nut, I barely had to do any setup at all. Pure dumb luck, if you ask me!
Anyway, I hope someone at least enjoys it.
