Have a listen to, say an RG3120 (Mahogany with a few microns of
Flame Maple on top) compared to an RG 2550 (Basswood) to get an idea of the effect body wood has on the tone of a guitar - totally different sounding instruments - the wings will do the same thing. Supposedly it has to do with the density and hardness of the wood, which determines how soundwaves travel through the body, which in turn influences the tone of the instrument (phew!!)
