Charvel 2008
It seems
Charvel
is trying making a comeback in the shred community. Can anyone comment on the wood and build quality of these newer production models? Are they on par with higher end ESP?
Alder body, Dimarzio or Duncan, OFR, and the price seems right. If Charvel can hold the prestige that it used to they just might be on to something by selling plain jane guitars. These things seem built to rock, and exactly what I'm looking for. No dealers around unfortunately.

Re: Charvel 2008
I've been hearing mixed reviews of these things, both positive and negative. Personally I'd rather save some dough and get a custom shop model for an extra $1000-$1500.

Re: Charvel 2008
I've been looking for an old school guitar and Charvel's keep popping up but at ridiculous prices. The cheapest one I've found was like $900 for an 08 model, which for being a comeback company is a bit steep despite the fact that they
used
to be the king of guitars (as some would say).
Personally, I don't think it's worth it

Re: Charvel 2008
I just went to the website and checked out the 08 price list, and the cheapest brand new is only a mere $3200

Comeback company?
Compare a $999 guitar to a high end ESP?
Guys, put some things into perspective. You get an alder bodied guitar, made in the USA, brand name pickups, and a Floyd for $999. If you don't think that is a good deal, I can't help you further.

Re: Charvel 2008
the floyd isnt an OFR its a cheap asian made one...I want the Sol-Cal model in black but im mad they went with the knock off floyd instead of the real deal..I also heard the pickguard is flimsy and tuners are cheap.
Id rather pay an extra 200 bucks for a real floyd and 3 way switch, 3
ply pickguard
, and some schaller tuners and locks

I agree. Yes the Floyd is Ping made, but is not bad. For the price I think they are a great deal. Who gives a crap about the pickguard. The tuners are Grover minis which are great quality.

Re: Charvel 2008
The Floyd is made in Asia, but I have read nothing bad about it, and the tuners are Grovers.
Here is a very good review of one.

Re: Charvel 2008
That's a great review on the Duncan site.
Anyway, I would never expect a mass produced axe to be on par with something custom shop of any manufacturer. I was mainly comparing these to the ESP M2's, which I've played, and are nice. When I referred to ESP I was considering the difference between ESP mass and LTD, not LTD and ESP custom shop. My main concern was the wood quality and fit. A fret job is pretty much a given. Boo on the licensed Floyd.
The price tag seems fair on paper, but all that can change when you get one in your hands.

haha the thing about the grover tuners and the "swollen man meat"
This is an amazing review. I revoke what I said and I probably would save up for a custom shop, even though I'd probably end up buying another Ibanez while trying to save up haha
I'd probably just get a Wayne guitar though if I was getting something like a Charvel

Re: Charvel 2008
When I first heard about them, I (like many others) thought the street price was going to be in the $699-$799 range, and that would have been a steal based on the few I have seen.
I still think it is a great bargain at $999, but I will wait until I can snag me a used one.

Re: Charvel 2008
Agreed, If I was to get one I would wait till it is used and then I'd possibly swap the fake floyd for a real one
