Charvel & Kramer Guitars?

Hey everybody, I'm pretty new here, but have been reading stuff on jemsite for about a year now. I'm a HUGE Van Halen fan, and I know all the stories about Eddie's early works with Charvel guitars and also Kramer. I've heard some great things about these guitars, Im just wondering if any of you own any, and what guitar model you guys like the most out of these 2 companies.Oh and please post some pics too of all your crazy 80's Charvel and Kramer paint jobs. Thanks everybody!

Re: Charvel & Kramer Guitars?

here is a pic of my guitar family at the moment...... i bought the kramer locally and was going to put in a single pup at the neck, the pic on the craigslist listing was bad. so when i got there to buy it OMG it had one already. this is a jk1000 an MIJ kramer with a baretta neck and upgraded pups. a jb in the bridge and a lil 59 in the neck. sounds great plays great. i like the offset upper horn, it makes it comfortable to play sitting down it just rests evenly on your chest. Unfortunately a bad case of GAS has me wanting to sell it..... i was going to paint it but the paint wasnt bad enough to justify it..... anyway here they are.

Wow man, thanks for the fast response and sweet axe! I've heard some good things about that model, and I've also seen it in a cool purple color. How does that thing sound clean, and does it stay in tune well?

Re: Charvel & Kramer Guitars?

floyd rose so tuning is rock solid.... i upgraded the pups so it sounds really good clean and distorted. the JB is a very articulate pick up. it sounds pretty darn good.

if i didnt have the other two electrics i would definitely be keeping it. but this one i am less attached to than the other 2.

Re: Charvel & Kramer Guitars?

Here's my Kramer Focus 1000. The previous owner modded it for three humbuckers, but I like having only two, so I covered it up with some plastic I cut out. I also added a Gibson-style toggle switch. It was already modded, so it didn't bother me. Plus, I got it for $175 at Guitar Center. It's Japanese-made and with an Original Floyd Rose. Quite a bargain! I also put a JB in the bridge (it just seems to be "the" pickup for these Kramers) and a '59n in the neck.

You can read about what I did to the guitar on my blog here:

If you want to see some really cool Charvels and Jacksons, including some original VH style striped guitars, head over to The Jackson/Charvel forum gallery. You'll find a photographic history of the guitars that started the "Hot Rod" Strat craze.

For the time being, these are my (2) Charvels:

Sweet axes all, and thanks for the suggestion Toneboy. I enjoyed checking out those pics. I've been looking for a Nightswan with that Lightning graphic forever!

Re: Charvel & Kramer Guitars?

There are custom shop Charvels with 24 frets and Jacksons, both production and custom shop, that have 24 frets.

Re: Charvel & Kramer Guitars?

I don't recall any production Charvels having 24 frets though there was a series made during the mid 90s that I'm not familiar with. I do know that all the current production Charvels only come with 22 frets.

The Charvel Model 6 had 24 frets, and I believe the Model 5 did as well.

1) Those Charvels are so sexy I think that I want to have sex with them.

2) There was a 'fire crackle' charvel that was a high end model that has 24 frets.

You are correct. I forgot that the neck-thru models from the Model series (Model 5, Model 6 and Model 5A and Model 5FX) all had 24 frets.
