Cheap Charvel?

Hi all,

Anyways I was at my local pawnshop looking to see if they had anything interesting and they has a strat copy Charvel hanging up with a $130 price tag on it. So I was wondering since I don't know a lot about Charvel guitars is this a good buy? Since I don't know a lot about them I could not tell you the first thing about the model, but just how low do they go?

Thanks
Joel

Re: Cheap Charvel?

I am a fan, and owner of Jackson/Charvel guitars, going back over 20 years. My graduation present was a Charvel Model 4, with a Kahler trem. I'd say, so long as it's in good shape, sounds and plays to your liking, go for it. I would. However, if you do, you gotta post some pics up here, so I can see it! hehe.

Re: Cheap Charvel?

I had a Charvel once, a Model 3, it was red and was equipped with one humbucker, a Floyd and one knob, it was very simple, I liked it, unfortunately, I got rid of it several years ago.

Re: Cheap Charvel?

Does the headstock look like this? (ignore the nut, that's an Earvana and not stock) If so, it's a Model series guitar and worth the money. If it looks like that, but the headstock on the little guitar in the sticker is 3 a side, then GRAB IT AND RUN! Any chance of some pics?

Re: Cheap Charvel?

It could be a Model 1A, like mine: (Does it look like this? I modded mine for HSH, they were SSS from the factory, like a normal strat)

If it does look like mine, with the pointy headstock. . . .GET IT.

They're great guitars.

I have a '87 Model 3 which was made in Japan (with the Ft. Worth, TX address on the neckplate). It's a great guitar!! The Japan-made stuff was very high quality. Almost all of the hardware on mine is marked "Jackson" including the Jackson trem, pups, and tuners. Great tones, great player! For that price, you can't go wrong.

Re: Cheap Charvel?

I'm guessing what it prbably is, is a CX series, which I would personally jump, if I had the cash, since I am planning a Green Meanie project, and they already have the jack sidemounted. Plus, depending on which model CX, they already have the right H-S-H pickup/pickguard combo, and even a Floyd.

Re: Cheap Charvel?

Nope nothing like those guys. It is a S-S-S pickup and has a headstock exactly shaped like a strat. Like I said it is a strat copy in every way. So any other model ideas?

Re: Cheap Charvel?

Nice CX, Gex. I'm guessing that's kinda like what he saw, in S-S-S form, though. If it doesn't have the sidejack, like yours, I'm guessing it may be a CS series.
DV8, there is a CS series on Eb*y, right now, item 230026196943. Is it anything like THAT?

Re: Cheap Charvel?

Yep it kind of looks like the one on eb*y, but the headstock looks like the above black guitar and the Charvel logo is printed like this one

It isn't mine (the black CX), that was a random Google hit.

The Red Charvel Model 1A IS mine, though.

I think I would pass unless it was a Model series, personally.

Re: Cheap Charvel?

I think the Charvels that came with the actual strat-style headstock were foreign models, and not available in the states (however, I may be wrong. This is based on another online forum discussion.) Did it have the sidejack, like Gex's picture, or was it like the one on Eb*y, that I linked?
DV8, did you try playing it? And if so, did you like it, the feel the tone, the features? If so, I'd say scoop it up. Now, since I did not see it, it IS possible that it is not an actual Charvel, but a clone (plently of those running around), but I DO know they made actual Charvels with complete strat headstocks.
