classical guitars?

im planing on selling all my electrics and buying a classical instead. = )
any1 can tell me a good cut away classical to get? one thing im most worried about is the dimension of the neck, its got to have a fast neck that i can shred on, it cant be too wide like the ibanez classical i played. somewhat similar to eletric guitar's neck demension is what im looking for.
looking for under 500 and under 1000.

edit, my current 2 guitars im looking at are la patrie concert cut away and the ibanez AEG10NEBKF. any1 have any information on them?

Not many like that. Most classicals are wide (2") and flat (no fretboard radius).

Google the newsgroups for nylon string guitar for electric players or jazzers. These tend to be the people playing narrow, radiused nylon string guitars.

Wechter makes one, Ovation had one, Yamaha has an APX and a narrow classical that's NOT radiused, and Ibanez has the AEF20.

Don't get one TOO narrow. Nylon and silk/steel strings have more excursion than steel ones, and a 1 11/16" (or 1 5/8"!) nut width will be cramped.

I think it's great you want to concentrate on classical. I would, however, suggest you give the standard classical body size and architecture a really hard look. If you can learn to live with it, there will be an enormously larger pool of instruments to choose from going forward for you. All of the legendary brands and up and comers alike will build to the standard specs of Ramirez and Hauser, and it would be a shame to lose out on those when you can simply concentrate there now.

Jim has a great point. I will probably get that cheapie IBZ myself someday, as I have a hard time switching between my others and my cheapo Conn classical. But - if I were to give up all the others and dedicate myself to classical, it might be another story. There's a reason classicals have come to have those standard specs.

If you can find one, you might like the Ibanez SC500N, which Ibanez only made for a short time. It is shaped like an S series guitar, it is a solid body, and even though it is a nylon string guitar, the spacing between the strings is closer to an electric guitar. have to ask why you want a classical to shred on ? i play classical on mine

have one made if thats what you are realy wanting and then it will be how you want it, my classical maker shaved the neck to the radius of the first classical guitar he made for me.

my answer to u bezial is all i ever play on my electric is classical things. from bach to vivaldi and from paganini to chopin. one of these days i was just like F it, and decided i would be better off shredding on a classical period.

So, do you want to play "classical" or "classical style shred"? If you want to play real classical, get a classical guitar, a footrest, and a music stand. You'll get used to the neck with time.

Oh yeah, apparently this is why you never got back to me about the 550 you said you were going to buy, next time, at least let someone know if you change your mind so you aren't wasting their time.

some of the nicest classical guitars can be bought at http://www.guitarsalon.com/ some of their concert level ones can be scary to look at with their $10K price tags thou. But they have some great ones in the $1k to $2K range. I really like the Antonio Loriente "Clarita".
