Custom Guitar #2 (legacy neck) - UPDATE WITH PICS!
Things are moving right along folks. Here's a few progress pics I just got today - not amazing quality pics but theyll do. The body is drawn up, its going to be a carve top as I said before. The outer edge is gonna be the white korina (same wood as the body), and the inner is gonna be that mappa burl top. B/C of the carve top its gonna basically be 3d and contoured nicely if that makes any sense. Inlay on the headstock is done as well. Total time left is about 2-2.5 weeks. P-s-y-c-h-e-d.

More neck pics comin' atcha
. I got the neck from the seller everyone was claiming stole their money...didnt steal mine, i got a sick neck at a great price and it was on my doorstep 3 days after I paid for it. Here's a few more pics (before headstock inlay was done by my custom builder). AAAA flame

The board pictured in the first post of the thread is the body, its white korina. Apparently korina is the holy grail for tone, so we'll see haha. And here's a pic of the mappa burl top my custom builder's putting on top of the white korina body. Just need to take care of the two little holes, fill em up with some burl from the sides and itll be perfect

And also, where the heck did you see other mappa burl tops "lately" lol, I find that almost no one uses this particular wood. The Ibanez S series ones are the only ones i can think of, and they use poplar burl.

It's only dangerous if youre allergic to it and/or inhale a lot of it, I hvnt read about it being a problem anywhere, and besides IM not the one doing the work, my custom builder is. He's been building guitars for 20 years + so I'm sure he works with a mask and all the precautions necessary. Thanks for looking out though.

I've seen a few Parker's with burled Mappa tops and some acoustics with burled Mappa back and sides. Not to mention I've seen some drums with burled mappa over maple too lately.
It's really not as uncommonly used as you might think, just not really common in most major manufacturer's I guess.

Ah well I thought yah meant on electric guitars, I wasnt thinking about acoustic or drums. And I believe there was one Parker that was like limited edition of 100 guitars that was made with a mappa top.

Sorry for the confusion. Anyway I don't know why it isn't more popular in building, it's very beautiful.
Also when I said board I meant the
fret board
heh.

No apologies necessary man. And ah, misunderstanding on my part. I thought by "board" you meant the body blank. And yeah I love the fretboard, I wasnt even planning on a tree of life inlaid neck for this project, i was gona go with some kinda custom inlay like my first
custom guitar
had, but the AAAA flame on the fretboard and the very nice pricetag won me over, lol.
