Custom guitar question . . .

Hey just a quick question - I was contemplating putting together a Warmoth strat with a tune-o-matic/string-through-body bridge, and was wondering . . . Does it make more sense to have an angled neck pocket and a regular tune-o-matic bridge, or a regular neck pocket with a recessed bridge?

Re: Custom guitar question . . .

Well, at the risk of sounding flippant, it makes more sense to have a Strat style hard tail bridge, as the Tune-O-Matic really is designed for a guitar with a pretty substantial neck angle - never could really comprehend the sense in sinking it into the body, and if you angle the neck pocket, you'll end up with the pickups sticking half an inch out of the face of the guitar. I am merely speculating, but I think you'll get more tone and sustain out of a Strat style bridge and string through style setup than a Tune-O-Matic in any case.

Well you've made good points. I have noticed the ridiculous bridge pup height on explorers and such. So I guess the choices would be a recessed Tune-O or a strat-style hard tail bridge. I suppose it doesn't matter which. They're both strung through the body. Would one be easier to intonate, etc.?

Re: Custom guitar question . . .

that said, i think many people simply like the feel and look of a tuneomatic over a hardtail.. and a string through body TOM setup will still give you great tone

personally i like the look sometimes, i think it looks more balanced designwise than a non trem hardtail.
