Damn you Fender

and the estate of Joe Strummer

The legacy of punk rock legend Joe Strummer continues to live on and grow louder with the release of Fender's new Joe Strummer Telecaster guitar. Designed with the guidance and support of the Strummer estate and featuring distressed "road-worn" treatment, a "Revolution Rock" engraved neckplate and a limited edition art customization kit, the Joe Strummer Telecaster will be available at music product retailers worldwide beginning July 2007.

Forward-thinking cultural icon Joe Strummer (1952-2002) was co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead singer of seminal British punk rock band the Clash. He later founded, recorded and toured with the Mescaleros. All his life, Strummer vigorously championed individuality, self-expression and change—tenets often reflected in the constantly altered look of his favorite and most recognizable instrument—his Telecaster (currently on display in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland).

The Joe Strummer Telecaster is modeled after the '66 Telecaster Strummer played throughout most of his career. Although the guitar's appearance changed often, it was a fairly standard '60s-era Telecaster with all the original parts and specifications

Re: Damn you Fender

Joe Strummer would turn in his grave even at the concept of this. Could the idea of a mass produced carbon copy relic be any less in keeping with The Clash's culture?

Re: Damn you Fender

That's a sin. In addition to being against everything Joe stood for, the relic job doesn't even look good. Fender will be recieving a nasty email from me.

Re: Damn you Fender

I saw this earlier today and it is blasphemy. Not only would Strummer never approve of such a thing, but it doesn't even look like Joe's guitar.

That was going to be my point exactly. Not only does it not look anything like the real thing, it just looks 'artifical' to me. It looks too false. Quite alot of the Custom Shop relics that Fender do look and play amazing. But this one obviously isn't up to that standard.

Re: Damn you Fender

I was thinking the same thing. This is a horrible relic job. It looks like a brand new guitar that they just scratched up, not even remotely believable. I have seen many a relic that truly looked like they were decades old. This sucks.
