I'm in the process of evaluating my RG470s for upgrade to either better -performing 470s versus used 570s versus new 1570/2570s. I've spent some tech money ($125) on 470 tweaking. Then yesterday, I saw this scratched Warwick Alien acoustic bass that blew me away with its projection and other qualities. I bought it largely to increase the frequency of acoustic jams with bassist friends.
For the RG 470, I tried a tech with a great reputation for consult and 470 lo pro tune up. Initial result was great, but then my gigging uncovered tuning instability in my E/B strings and then grooves in the E/B lock. I couldn't believe the tech either missed it or saw it and failed to mention it to me during our extended talks. He's out of town for May, so in his defense, he hasn't had a chance to explain.
I've been researching my future moves. My main motivation is improved tuning stability with heavy trem use. I've yet to hear an A/B comparison with
Dimarzio pups. I recently bought a 570 off **** but haven't had it tweaked. My
local music store buddy has been tempting me on a new candy red 1570 (new Edge inferior to Edge?).
Anyway, I paid 1500 plus tax, for the bass (see comparable
http://elderly.com/new_instruments/items/ALIEN.htm ). Was this a d'oh moment?
