Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

hi, i have a Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer brand new with locking tune o matic bridge and grover tuners.

but my real problem is the balance of the guitar, if i hold it by the guitar strap the neck goes right to the floor, its not so bad when i have it on me but it still it is a problem because i have to kinda hold the neck up.

if i change the position of the strap look (neer the jack) to the top of the horn, you know what i mean:P but would that fix the problem?

any advice would be appreciated^^

Re: Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

I tried that with a non reverse body thunderbird bass and it didn't work. The bass is a 5 string, so I would imagine quite a bit heavier in the headstock than your explorer, and the shape obviously different but doing what you suggest did not work at all.

The only thing I found that helped was not using a nylon webbed (seat belt material) strap. I paid the bucks for a thick leather strap that grips my shoulder well and that helps a lot.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Re: Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

okay understand
thanks^^

it's just that the body is korina and the neck is mahogany so the body is light compared to the neck. but i hope it will work^^

i'm not 100%, but there is a thread floating around here on jemsite somewhere about altering the strap pin position on an ibanez xiphos to stop neck dive i think.

search around for a bit. may help you.

it's fairly simple, move the strap button closest to the neck to the area where the neck joins the body on the back, and your guitar will be well strap balanced

I know someone who thought his 540P-II was out of balance, so he put a big chunk of iron in the control cavity. Worked for him!

Had an Epi Explorer once and i had the same problem... Thought i would hate it but i ended up learning to live with it and loving it...

A less slippery strap helps, too... I had a leather one that was rugged on the inside...

Re: Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

i moved the strap lock to the neck joint and it workd^^

the only problem now is the where the strap lock used to be, it's a korina body in natural finish so i cant just take a piece of wood and shove it in

sure it does

I wouldn't call the rest a problem, just leave the tiny hole unplugged..
Btw, it's not a real Korina body on these.

Re: Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

more then likely three or even four pieces of Alder or Mahogany glued together with some Korina veneer on top.

Epi lists the guitars as being made of Korina, not as Solid Korina which is logical since Korina is too rare/expensive to be sold so cheap.

Re: Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

understand... because when i look at the top it does look like a veneer top, and on the sides you can se where the edges meet...

alder and mahogany, hehe funny combinations

Re: Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

the only prblem i have now is that there is something wrong with the way it's been wired.

it wont shut up unless i turn all the knobs down, both volumes and the tone.

and if i use the bridge pickup and have the volume and tone sett to max and then turn the bridge volume down it still isnt off, same with the neck

you have to turn all knobs off for it to shut up.

is there anything i can do about it?

i can solder it again if thats what it takes

Re: Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer Issue

Get a strap with suede on the back of it. It will keep it from sliding.
