ESP M-201, strings pulling the bridge up too high..

Hi,

A few months ago I posted in regards to identifying an ESP, turns out to have been a discontinued M-201. I don't know if it's generally regarded as crap, but it's actually really nice, from the few months I've used it (though I'm not a big fan of the EMG-Hz pickups).

I recently took the strings off that came with it and re-strung it using 10's, and am now faced with a difficult and annoying problem. In tuning it, if I go above DGCFAD, the tension pulls the bridge up very high and causes the strings to rise off of the surface of the fretboard, making it uncomfortable to play. At DGCFAD, the bridge is settled back into its recession and the action is incredibly smooth and low, the ideal setting.

Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of that tuning, I'd prefer it at Eb. What could be causing the tension to pull the bridge up in such a manner, and how could it be corrected?

Thanks.

Real easy to fix.
Thicker gauge strings pull on the bridge more than thinner gauge.
Uncrew the back plate and tighten the spring claw holder couple of turns.
Try and retune until you manage to balance the bridge flat between the spring/string tension.

+1

I've run into this when switching from 9's to 10's. Works like a charm.
