Fedex vs USPS?!

I don't really know where to post this, so mods move it if you want....

I don't live in the US so I don't really know... Is FedEx really that better versus USPS? and really more expensive??

I just ordered a guitar in the US... and with FedEx priority to Europe, the guy told me the shipping cost would be around 500$!!!!! OK it's an expensive guitar (around 3'000$) and it will be fully insured... but I don't know if the guy is trying to fool me...

Is that possible in your view?

My RG20th from Rich was Fedex. It arrived in a couple of days, no problems and I think the cost was about $150.

I don't know about USPS but Fedex was no problems and fast

Re: Fedex vs USPS?!

the guy is not kidding. fedex/ups/dhl are very expensive. one of the reasons is that they handle all customs issues for you. usps is alot cheaper but sometimes theres a size limit for what you can ship through them. you can find all the info on usps.com . theres a shipping calculoator on usps.com as well so you can check the exact shipping cost. The prefered shipping option is international express air mail. It is fast, insured and trackable through their tracinkg system, and through the tracking system of the postoffice website on the destination country. since the post doesnot handle all customs issues the guitar might be delayed for a couple of days in customs when it arrives to your country. In Israel what usually happens is that they determine how much you need to pay and send the guitar to the postoffice to charge the money from you when you receive it. If they are not sure how much to charge they ask you to bring them a copy of the receipt to determine the value.

Re: Fedex vs USPS?!

I personally really like Fedex, because we ship a lot of stuff, and get a lot of stuff shipped to us, and they have been great as far as deliveries and customer service. They must really like us, or it must be the candy bowl we have by the front door, but they bend over backwards for us.

I'd say the worst experiences we've had are with DHL. USPS isn't too bad. UPS is getting better.

Some of the BEST experiences I've had are with DHL. THEE worst was UPS. Our ham-fisted UPS guy has busted everything from plates, to a combo amp just bought, online (heard him crop it in the truck. Cracked the wood cabinet, straight through!). Next best was Fedex. Next to worse was USPS.

Re: Fedex vs USPS?!

I got my guitar via USPS Express from Rich. It took about 4-5 days with no problems at all. Shipping fee was below 150 bucks (I think 130) to Europe, fully insured. I think most other services are overrated.
