Fender Squier MIJ - New Body and Pickups!

I'm finally getting around to posting pics of the mods I made to my '80s MIJ Squier. The original body was black and had 2 visible glue joints below the finish. I bought a new ash body, finished in surf green, and added a set of Fender Hot Noiseless pickups. I also added a parchment colored pickguard and a set of Fender aged white knobs, switch and trem bar tips. The original plastic nut was just about worn out, so I replaced it with a graphite one from Graph-Tech.

The last pic shows the flame on the neck quite well.

I'm diggin' the '60s vibe! Any comments?

Exactly the same as my guitar tech's squire. The japs really built good squire strats at that time unlike now

Re: Fender Squier MIJ - New Body and Pickups!

I've been playing the Squier through my JSX recently. The Hot Noiseless pu'ps are killer!

The clean channel with a slight OD/ clean boost from my Sparkle Drive has a cool Zep "Custard Pie" tone.

Switching to the crunch channel with the gain at 5 (no OD pedal) yeilds an instant Blackmore vibe, straight from the Made in Japan album.

This guitar is prolly gonna be my "go to" Strat for a long time to come! At least until I hit the Mega Millions lottery.

Is this really a mod? Isn't it more like, you bought a new body and used the neck from your old guitar?

Anyway, very cool. I *love* surf green. I've been wanting a strat for a while but part of the reason I keep putting it off is that I can't decide on a color. I'm torn between 3-color burst, white, and surf green. Ooo, candy blue is nice too.
