Fender.. - Whats the problem??

After browsing this site for a long time now... I always see someone saying something about how much fender sucks or something a long those lines.

I just don't see what is wrong with them.

I have a US floyd Rose Classic strat with a duncan custom custom at the bridge ( originally had a PAF ) and the guitar is awesome. What it is everyone hates about them ?

I don't hate them I own three of them. Nice guitars if you ask me. *They are very different from Ibanez guitars (which I also love) but not better or worse just different.

They're ok. But entirely unrelated to Jems/Ibanez, so you'd have to expect a certain amount of Fender dislike.

I don't see anymore Fender bashing in here than any other non-Ibanez (inferior) brand =)

I actually like Fenders. EC strat is awesome, and if I have my way I'll own one of those 90's Thinline Tele's! Ibanez just fits my style better plus I like the look better as well. More modern.

Well it is an Ibanez board after all, so there's a pretty healthy amount of anything non-Ibanez/UV/JEM/Vai bashing.

I personally like Fenders as much as anything else. I just purchased an American Standard Hardtail and love it.

Fenders are great guitars. But I don't think they worth their price. Well, at least here in Brazil. For the price of an American Standard Strat I can buy a very nice high-end japanese RG, which is a much better axe than a Standard Strat.

The neck kinda bothers me, the ones I've played have been shorter but still 22's. *But, they're still better than gibson's

I'm not sure anyone here hates them, but some of us do have a few issues with the company.

A. *They continuously hype up their "cutting edge" technology in ads. *Since when is a standard trem cutting edge?

B. *Their prices are outrageously over-inflated. *Think about the fact that the best non-signature or custom-shop model (the American Standard) will run you about $1000.00. *The best non-sig or custom model from Ibanez (the RG570) can be had at nearly half that much. *Then remember Ibanez must also pay importers duties and other expenses due to transport from Japan. *We're looking at a superior (or at least equal) product coming from a different country and still being cheaper than a "cutting edge" standard trem Fender.

C. *Some of us (myself included) find them difficult and uncomfortable to play.

This is not to say that Fenders "suck" or are horrible guitars. *I just have a few gripes.

You don't eat steak with a spoon do you?

Well you don't really play metal/shred with a Strat. It's not what it's made for.

Used for it's proper musical genre, it's pretty much unrivaled.

And that's exactly what I have it for.

- Hey Jeffrey, Iron Maiden guys do play Strats..hehe!

- jem7vwh, they are unconfortable and dificult to play indeed. However, I must say that Fenders always were known as 'challanging guitars'. Ritchie Blackmore once said that he liked Fenders because he enjoys 'fighting' with the guitar.

To finish this endless discussion I'll say that it's all a matter of taste. Get the guitar that you like to play and don't care about what the others say about it.

There was a time when I had many Fenders. Then I bought a Jem. Now I own one Strat, and I might swap it for a Soloist...

I'm very fond of Fender guitars, and they make some great instruments, but I'm off in another direction now.

I should add that there are a few Fenders I've played that were amazing. *Problem was one was a Richie Sambora model and the other was a Custom Shop that was *marked down* to $5000. *Therefore, I won't argue that Fender can't make a good guitar. *I just don't feel they are a very good deal for the money.

Jeffrey, when I said they were difficult to play, I didn't mean in the confines of shred, I meant things like the body contours, the neck profile and radius. * It's just a combination that I rarely like. *As I've said, the good ones (custom shop and sig models) play fine but the regular models are difficult. *Many years ago (believe it or not) I went through a huge J ***
phase where I hated anything that sounded like wanking or showing off, and all I played with very simple swing and jazz. *Even then, I preferred "shred guitars". *I don't think I've ever played a better guitar for Jazz
the Maxxas. *It had a great neck and a chambered body. *Point is, I think a good playing guitar is a good playing guitar, regardless of genre. *And "good playing" of course is all just personal taste.

*This board is doing a lotta goofy ****
with swear words at the moment*

Well I don't agree that they are all difficult to play. Especially the new ones. Fender retooled for 2001. The necks are flatter, wider, have jumbo frets etc.

Hence why I finally bought one.

But believe it or not, some folks to like big fat necks and small fretwire.

I'm not one of them however.

I'll also add that in this day and age of CNC milling and automated finishing, it's amazing what will squeak by sometimes. *While I have a few gripes with Fenders, I really dislike Gibsons. *However, there's this one freakish Les Paul Artwood at the Mars Music in Houston that I swear has the hottest pickups and nicest neck I've played on a non-Ibanez guitar in years. *They have three models, only that one plays like that. *The other two both feel like a baseball bat. *It's funny how guitars feel so different when they come from the same factory.
