Finally got my Suhr!

After a 4 month wait I got my Suhr Standard. This thing is so amazing. Resonant, articulate, and put together perfectly. It was worth the gear I sold to get it. I have to recommend them as the craftsmanship is just stellar.

With a flash

One of that beautiful scraped binding...

That is really nice. Hey, I've always wondered - what's the thickness like of those things - is the body as thick as, say, a Strat or RG? They always look thin in pictures . . .

Ha ha! Neither - those are my untouchables. I sold my Anderson, an Ibanez, and an amp recently. Lots of gear turnover lately, lol.

Colin, I haven't owned a Strat in a long time, but this guitar is every bit as thick as my RGs. Seems to be the same size.

I think it's that contoured area that looks so deceiving.

Yeah, and now that I think about it, the natural binding makes it appear thinner than it is. But that's a relatively thick maple top and the binding is, of course, all on the side of the guitar.

Re: Finally got my Suhr!

Very nice looking axe. I've never played one but seeing how you sold a TA guitar I would guess they trump TA's for you, which is saying alot. I played a couple and both were awesome axes I'd been proud to have owned, if I could have afforded them at the time ($1400 each used).

Which Ibanez and amp did you turn over?
Congrats!

Re: Finally got my Suhr!

That is an amazing looking guitar.

How does it compare to your BFR, I am considering ordering one but I reckon I could get a Shur for similar money.

Cheers

I sold my Anderson, my Ibanez 20062 and a Triaxis I acquired in a trade and this more than financed the Suhr and helped me downsize by one guitar. The Anderson was awesome, but I wasn't in love with it and it had locking tuners and a double-locking FR system. So it was a pain to restring as the locking tuners were really stiff and tough to deal with. The Suhr has Sperzels which I'm really fond of.

Gurj, here are the specs:

Suhr Standard
Basswood body, maple top
Neck: Even C Slim .800-.880
Frets: Jumbo stainless steel
Sperzel locking tuners
Neck pickup: JST DSV Humbucker
Bridge pickup: JST DSH Humbucker
Radius: 10"-14"
Abalone Face, Side Dots & Logo

Dazza, it's obviously a different feel from the BFR, but both of these guitars are top notch quality. The Suhr neck feels narrower (not necessarily thinner but regarding width) and I got jumbo frets which are quite a bit larger than the BFR's. The Suhr gets some great Stratty tones with the split neck coil and the BFR has the metal stuff covered, obviously. I'm very partial to the JP trem (best-trem-ever, ha!) but this Suhr trem is extremely well made and sustains nicely - it's called a 510 whatever that means . I wanted a guitar without a Floyd as I have enough Floyd equipped axes. I hope I can dial in some tones at a good, loud volume today. I would say so far this is the most articulate sounding guitar I've played. It makes everything jump out - the good and the bad. No room for making errors, ha. But when you play it well, it sounds amazing.
