First floating bridge guitar please help!

Hi I just recieved my first guitar with a floating bridge (the Floyd Rose Discovery II). I was wondering how it's possible to stop the other strings from becoming flat when I'm doing bends. Also, I can't raise the pitch very much (barely a half-step), and I want to be able to raise it more. Please help dudes and dudettes I registered here to ask this question 'cuz I knew I could get some good help here plz help!!!

Re: First floating bridge guitar please help!

YO finally borrowed a screw driver and looked under the hood Now, when I hit the low open E string I can raise the note four half steps because when I read Dr. Vai's deal about his trem setup from like the late 80's and he said he could raise a note as much as four semitones. I'm curious, though, about something and I couldn't find any info anywhere else yet so I need to ask! How do some of you guys and gals prefer your floating trem? I mean like how much can you raise the pitch, do you have a tight spring tension to hold the tuning for bends or prefer a blocked trem etc. I'm liking the way that I have it now, but, I want to add a spring or something because I don't like how trem gives when bending. Laaate and thanks Mark G ^_^

Re: First floating bridge guitar please help!

People tend to measure whammy pull-up on the G or B string 12th fret.
My Jems are set up so it pulls up 5-6 semitones. (a fourth/raised fourth)

For reference I also checked the low-E, there I can pull-up about 8 semitones (a flatted sixth)

Hwo far you can go depends on the shape of the trem and the trem cavity, it will 'bottom out' somewhere. With the cavity cover off, you may be able to see where this is.

If you use more than 3 springs you may also 'bottom out' on the springs, as you can open springs but you can't close them.

Re: First floating bridge guitar please help!

Wow a flatted 6th sounds like a screamer! I've been reading about adding springs and it sounds like even if I put five springs on then the bridge will still give a little On that note, do you think that Vai's is tightened so that the bridge won't give? Or is it just impossible to avoid this with a floating trem set up for decent whammy pull-up??? Thanks eviltwin Easy on those strings lol

A backstop type device may help. I don't think anything short of blocking will ELIMINATE it completely. Doesn't bother me.
