First new guitar of 2003 ? My new Capelli Custom !

Hy there !

OK, this guitar is mine since October, but I thought that the 1st of January was a good day to show you some pics. Capelli is a french luthier (and a good friend of mine), and he made this one for me (he also makes Luca Turilli's guitars (Rhapsody), but I'm not as good a guitarist as he is !)

If anyone is interested by the story behind this guitar, I can tell it to you in another post. For now, I hope you'll enjoy this pic :

You can find more pics : Here

If anyone is interested for any detail, I'll give you answers !!!

Happy new year to all of you, and long live Jemsite !

That is one gorgeous piece of maple, (is it really one piece?)and the recessed cavities under the volume and tone knobs give this axe a very elegant look as do the very smooth routings around the trem and pups!! I want one!!!(can't even begin to afford one ) Awsome!!!!

OK, I finally recovered from last night !

Here is the story of this guitar...

It all started back in 95, in Capelli's workshop. There was a prototype of a new boby shape that Capelli was working on. This prototype is the origin of the bodies that are now his trademark. It was a poplar body, and I really liked the mix between flamed areas and some imperfections in the wood (don't know how to say it in english..., but here is an example) :

5 years later, this body was still collecting dust in the workshop. I asked Capelli what were his plans for it : "Oh, it will certainly make a nice fire !" was his reply. So I said : "hey, just put a neck and some strings on that, I'm really in love with that piece of wood, I don't want it to be burnt !"

After a two years negotiation, here is the result ! He didn't want to put on the market the prototype body, but he agreed to make one for me that would have the same appearance, but would be more in line with the shapes of his "mass production" bodies.

So, to summarize, the body is :
- Half maple (for the tone brightness) and poplar (to respect the identity of the prototype)
- The table and the back are flamed poplar, which respects totally the appearance of the prototype.
What I really like with this wood, is that it's not perfect : you just can see how free nature is when it wants to create shapes, colours and "visual effects". Take a different light, a different angle, and you'll have another guitar : definitely cool !

At the beginning of the project, the idea was to make something classy but "cheap" (as we first planned to give another life to the prototype body). What do we have here ? :
- Neck : hehe : if someone guesses what it was before, he's very clever ! anyway, it was re-shaped, re-finished by Capelli, following the profile of my JEM 90 HAM neck !
- Hardware : gotoh, Di Marzio (knobs) and a second-hand Lo-TRS (don't flame me, this one is working perfectly, and if you want me to post a MP3 to confirm it, I'll do !)
- Pickups : Di Marzio Paf Pro (bridge), second hand Di Marzio ? (neck), and an Ibanez QMS1 in the middle, that was originally on Luca Turilli's Sabre !!!
- 5 ways Di Marzio switch, with :
- - 1 : (or 5, I can't remember...) : bridge
- - 2 : Bridge (splitted) and middle
- - 3 : neck (splitted) and bridge (splitted) : some kind of a telecaster tone, much more useful than the middle single coil alone
- - 4 : neck (splitted) and middle
- - 5 : Neck

That's all, folks !

The price ? let's say that it's not the most expensive of all my guitars (check my site : Here, and look for the "pics" link. You'll find a special page for my Capelli #1 (one piece maple body), and a special page for this one (Capelli 2).

And if you would like to order a guitar like this one (with no second hand parts ), well, the price wouldn't be much higher than a stock Jem...., don't hesitate to contact me for further information !

Two hands 31 : No 7 strings is as sweet as the ones he does... (except my PWH, but if I say so, he'll not make nice guitars for me anymore...) Anyway, I'll try to steal some pics from him and scan them...

Dead roman : Sexy beast... hmm, sounds like a good name for this guitar...
mp3s ? Recorded tonight, uploaded tomorrow !!!

Amazing guitar! Does it feel as good as it looks????
The imperfections on the body are magnificent. I love them.

That's an awesome looking guitar! The cuts in the sides are reminiscent of the old Peavey Vandenberg models.

Here we go : mp3s...

Recorded yesterday at 3 AM, with maybe too much wine in the blood for a decent recording session....

Anyway : Always with you, always with me.mp3. Yes, I hope Satch will forgive me, but this is a one take recording, with my Capelli -> Marshall JMP-1, and an Art SGX 2000 Express in the FX loop. That goes directly into my old soundblaster PCI 128. I play over a backing track from a french magazine. Some parts are screwed up (oups, the legato part at the end of the song....), but as I say, it's a first take after a heavy drinking session, and not having played this tune for maybe 3 months doesn't help... (and that's why I will not put it in the upload section of jemsite ). Oh yes, it's 3.5 Megs, so maybe you should forget it if you don't have a good connection !

The other one : Randomshred.mp3 is, well, random shred. The aim of this one is to show you that even if a Lo-TRS is not as good as an edge, it can also make weird noises and stay perfectly in tune ! I may be flamed if I say that it's not the case for some Edge equiped guitars I've played, but it's the truth.... This file is 1.8 Meg or so, and it's only me playing with my "sexy beast", Mouahahahahahaaaa !

Hope you'll enjoy, and be sure that I'll someday upload some stuff with the guitar plugged in the amp and miced properly. But yesterday at 3 AM, no, it was not possible !!!
