+1 for the Strat, what I'd give for a RK Strat!
If you go for the Jem,they play really well I'd go for a model other than the vwh(just because I hate the looks)never played a JS or the MM JPM.
How about a N4? They're awesome

I never got why peeps pay 100,000's of bucks for an old bentley or royce either when you can have a new Viper for less...

What's so up to date about a Jem? Aren't they 80's throwbacks, with their daft looking monkey grips and double locking trems?
Bentleys and RR aren't good on the road whereas a Strat is still a very good guitar!

IMHO strats are hugely overrated just because of their name and brand (same as all the Gibsons)...

I can see their Vintage value if you are a collector of course, as they look nice in a glass case.

You are right about the JEM btw. it is from the 80s but at least younger than an F-16 design. In the time they built strats they still flew in double deckers ...

Also I did not say that the JEM was the answer to anything, I am a kid of the 80s and play many 80s and 90s songs, so it serves my purpose. For even more modern stuff it is not the end of the story by far.

Sadly guitar evolution is nearly as slow as airplanes (how old is the 747 now?), just with a few new gimmicks in them. I hope soon there will be another revolutionary guitar like the RG was back in the days... and who knows which company will make them...

Where the strat shines is versatile sound possibilities (especially the HSS models) and I loved my Sambora Signature especially, but I prefer the JS in terms of even more versatile sounds. It is sad that Fender doesn't produce such versatile guitars like the Sambora anymore and just focuses on Vintage redesigns... Only one HSS model with FR left... and it doesn't have a coil tap or mid-boost, lowpass...

Speaking of Rolls Royces and Bentleys, I saw a new Maybach last week. It was really spacious on the interior and, of course, it is designed to be driven by a chauffeur. I figure, ...if you're going to spend enough money to buy one of these cars listed above it might as well come with someone to drive you around.

Re: GAS: Choices...

I got a nice minty VWH used, and pulled the Evos out of it and put Bartolinis in it. Now it sounds great for jazz, great for rock, great for anything. Playability is right where I want it. There are lots of great guitars out there, but you really need to play them to find out what's for you. Heck, you could get ANY Carvin in any wood, color, whatever for the price point you're looking at. You literally have 100's of choices at that mark.
And as has been said, I'd also rather have the regular JP than the BFR.

Only when you show me a JEM that can give the rich, glassy tone of a Strat will I believe you.

There's just no need for that kind of language in here

I voted JS based on your first post, though my vwh is my sweetest player.

It's all good....get 'em all

Time to be a dick here. Everytime I see that arguement I cant help but think what a stupid thing it is to say. Aside from just about every guitar made being heavily based on a Fender or Gibson design, Fender and Gibson have some of the most technologically advanced guitars being made. Fenders VG Strat and Gibsons Robot Les Paul and Digital Les Paul are (from a technological standpoint) years ahead or what anyone except maybe Line 6 are making. If handles, floating trems and **** colors are what make a guitar modern, hand me the keys to the Delorean.

Re: GAS: Choices...

I am gonna track down a BFR for a test drive. The GC in Hallandale Beach, FL has a platinum room...so maybe, just maybe I will get lucky and find one there. And yeah, I have looked at strats and gibsons (the latter being way over priced), but I have got to have something a little more modern (not just motorized tuners). I want dimarzio p/u's with a solid sound with lots of mids.
