gas pains

I walked into a shop wednesday, and for some reason a PRS CE24 gave me some instant gas. I've played one or two, but never was that impressed. But for some reason this sunburst model just felt right. It was nice and 'played in', the neck had a great maple figure, the finish worn just right. It reminded me of gassing for a vintage strat as a teen. Plugging it into a Laney GH50, it sounded sooo good, and felt really nice. It was an '89 model I believe. I couldn't bring myself to write a $1300 check for it though. So back on the shelf it went. I was really looking around for used Ibanez's, but the only thing I found worth buying was an RG 570EX in a grayish pinkish colour. I believe it was one of the models meant for the euro market. I bought one about 5 years ago, but sold it almost immediately after. The pawn shop wanted $800, telling me they gave the owner $600 for it (I've never heard of a pawn shop dishing out $600 on a used japanese made guitar, except MAYBE a jem) I couldn't help but laugh, as I would've gave them $500 easy. But $800? They tried telling me how 'rare' and 'collectible' they are. They even had it tagged with a model number of 2570ex...which it definately wasn't. The lack of 'prestige' on the headstock made that apparent. All I have to say is those guys got hustled.

I think that the Ibanez your a talking about is called an 570EXCKP - cyber pink. I brought one back in 2000, or was it 2002? I can't rember, but the guitar is good! I hope you find some sort of medication to help you GAS problem .

Cyber pink, that's it! Yeah, I had one around 01/02, but for maybe a week. I liked it, but I couldn't justify paying $800 for a used non-prestige.

Re: gas pains

Isn't that guitar pre-prestige? Although there were some prestige models avaliable at the time (around 2000.2001.2002) the guitar is the equivalent of todays higher end models. Still I guess if you want some perspective - thats around 400 british pounds - and thats (roughly) what they go for here as well...so no real bargian!

Re: gas pains

There's only a couple of guitars that have ever felt PERFECT the first time I've played them. The first one that comes to mind for me is the Gretsch Duo Jet. There's also a Les Paul Custom that I played a couple of weeks ago that I really liked, but nothing for me has ever felt as perfect as the Duo Jet. My only problem with it is that it's not the best guitar for my musical styles. BUT, of all guitars I've played, a custom shop '65 has been the perfect guitar, though they don't make those anymore.

I really like the Eric Johnson and Jeff Beck strats too.

I'm gas'ing for a Ibanez 7 string S model, but I really don't need it. I hope it will pass soon.

Chris

Yeah, that's true. I like the lo-pro and the neck binding, but not enough to pay $400 more...maybe with dimarzio/ibz pups and alder body instead of v7/v8/s1 and basswood.
