Gibson BFG

Well I spent my share of the tax return on a Gibson Les Paul BFG. It struck me as being very unusual and actually kind of brutal looking. Sounds and plays great.

The top switch is a kill switch - I took the nut off to tighten it a bit, so it looks like its just hanging in the hole. Also I am not crazy bout the knobs, so I will be replacing them with metal barrel knobs. Everything that you think is wrong with the guitar is actually how it is produced. I guess Gibson found a way to market their trash - but know what? I'm good with it. $850 w/case at House of Guitars in Rochester NY.

Here's the mandatory pic, more to come if you guys are interested.

Re: Gibson BFG

I would wrestle with that until it was dead! WTF? Is it croc skin or something? Interesting guitar anyway. I've never seen one.

The knobs are actually one of the few things I like about that guitar

They look OK, but kinda like they are on the wrong guitar to me.

Yeah house of guitars can be pretty cool. I've seen one at Daddies here in Boston. I've never been a les paul kinda guy. Cool finish though.

The P-90/Burstbucker 3 combo is cool, so is the kill switch and the clear back plates, but the looks of the guitar arent for me.

Re: Gibson BFG

No offense, but I hate that (BFG Series in general). I'd just get a used Studio LP.

I know I'm in the minority as far as most of the members of this forum are concerned, but I love the relic things.
This is probably the only les paul I would play. And I wouldn't play nice.
Is it a flat-top? I can't tell that well from the pick.

Re: Gibson BFG

The P90 in the neck is pimp, not too nuts about the rest of the guitar. Might be even cooler if they stuck a mini bucker in there also for 3 pickup super versatility.

No, it is a carved top. I just put the barrel knobs on it and it is the cat's ass. It sounds killer!!! Definitely suits the style of musc we're playing.

I can't wait for practice tomorrow night to see if it passes the test. First gig with it will be Saturday. Now, I have to decide which tuning I will use on this one. I am thinking that my RGA will be dropped to C, and its a toss up between this one and the 2570 for drop d / standard.

The next pic is a little blurry, but it has the new knobs.

From the looks of this guitar I'd say use it for those moments when you feel like Hendrix/Townshend/Cobain. You know, humping speaker stacks, diving into your drummer's set, lighting sh*t on fire, etc. That sort of thing.
