I know are both very nice guitars but the silverburst is around $700 cheaper
but am I best saving up a little more and going for the Zakk custom?

lol hey thanx mate
well that is one of the reasons why I'm hesitating to get a Zakk guitar. I know from experience that an artists guitar is $1000 extra just for name so the quality are probably about the same right?

There is one (fairly significant) difference - ZW's are based on a mid seventies LP Custom, so they have a Maple Neck - all other Gibsons have a Mahogany neck - if you can pick the difference in tone you are a better man than I!

You answered your own question Rob!!!!!

Zakk who?

All Gibsons are about the same - expect to pay for a decent setup regardless of what model you buy, so the ZW is basically a waste of your money.

P.S. Silverburst is pretty rare in any case!

I hate the look of the silverburst.

Go for a regular Custom - every bit as good - and get a refinish.

Re: Gibson Custom Silverburst Vs Gibson Custom Zakk Wydle

The Zakk Wylde is the only LP I really like. Natural maple neck, EMG's, cool paint scheme... At least they tried to do something with the tired old LP design. Don't they have any good custom builders down under? For that kind of money you could have pretty much anything you want.

It all depends on the kind of music you like as well. There is a big difference bteween the Zakk model and those crappy 57 reissues with the buzzy pickups and runny paint. Sit down and play each one to see what is best for your playing and music style. Remember, when they say vintage they mean it.

Re: Gibson Custom Silverburst Vs Gibson Custom Zakk Wydle

you kidding me........custom building guitar shop here in australia!
no way
when it comes to musical instruments australia has the most stupid over priced retail figures in the world, maybe with an exception to somewhere like paris or prince charles's capital city.

A standard plain gibson goes for like $5000 and the Zakk custom gibson is about $8500 and to find a shop that actually stocks gibson guitars would be limited to only a few where I am. So I tend to look abroad for my equipment and also advice.

Re: Gibson Custom Silverburst Vs Gibson Custom Zakk Wydle

Wow! Are those in US dollars? Looks like there could be a market for someone to fly high end guitars over three or four at a time. There is a Zachary owner who lives down there and I don't think even he paid that much...

Maybe I'll go to luthiery school and move to Australia...

Re: Gibson Custom Silverburst Vs Gibson Custom Zakk Wydle

no thats in aussie dollars so like $8500 is $7300US
but of course I seen zakk custom guitars for under $3100 over there and they are new too but I think having around 250 million people in the U.S.A makes the demand for musical instruments high thus lower prices the more they sell. But I heard someone say here that australia and america have a free trade agreement so I dunno exactly what that means but hopefully no custom fees when importing would be great
