most likely because more wood is more tone? or does it have deeper chambers then normal lp's? im not real sure but either of those could be viaible, i have played a buddys custom shop lp and it was like 11 pounds it was ridiculous.

I have to say I really dont understand the issues people have with LP's.Yeah they're heavier than your wafer thin RG's,but really it's not like you're strapping a fridge around your neck!

Is it just me, or is that hanging really low?

It is hanging low. That my friend is the only way to wear a LP. The RG sits a bit higher. Not Petrucci high, but comfortable.

You're probably looking at the thickness of the mahogany. For Standards (and Les Pauls with maple tops), it's obviously going to be less to accommodate for the maple top. But Customs are mahogany bodied all the way through, hence the thicker piece of mahogany.

Wow, didn't know that. I always assumed they still had no cap. Thanks for letting me know.

If that's the case, I don't know what the OP is talking about.

Re: gibson les paul supreme

Customs do look thicker, but I never bothered to check if the actually are or not. It could just be the multiply front and back binding make them look thicker, or maybe the way they put the binding on adds thickness?

It bums me out because I would like an all mahogany LP but MF just raised the prices of the Vintage Mahogany to $1000 and I'm not interested in getting one of the Historic RI Customs.

Re: gibson les paul supreme

For those who still are wondering, years later.... Yes supreme are thicker and heavier. They also do not have rear access to the chambers, instead, you get to all the guts through the hole behind the extra large jack plate. It also typically has a much beefier sound than a standard LP. They look great and sound awesome. I own a 2004 in wine red, mahogany back with non-flame maple cap. Love it.
