Gibson Les Paul with Floyd Rose

I know a guy with a jet black LP that has a floyd bridge. It supposedly came installed from the factory. I never played it but I'd think it would take away from a L.P.'s forte'....punch and sustain.

* As far as an SG with a floyd, I'd wonder if the body is even thick enough to accept the rout.

Gibson Les Paul with Floyd Rose

Back in 1985, and a VERY short time in 1986, Gibson had a run called the XPL series. *All custom shop, they were models modified slightly from norm with different options. *Thats probably what you saw, an XPL Les Paul or something. *They even had a strat similar. *I've seen XPL Vs... and i own an XPL explorer. *Here is the one i own. *

http://members.aol.com/visionsofmetal/xpl.html

The floyd needed new arm threading, and i added a locking nut. *And changed the pickips, but the guitar plays amazing. *One of the best guitars ive ever played. *Thats the only one i've ever seen with a stock Floyd. *I've seen 2 with a stop-tail, and about 5 with a Kahler. *

Gibson Les Paul with Floyd Rose

I remember seeing Brad Gillis' floyd trem outfitted LP. *Looked odd. *I believe he was one of the first people to ever have a floyd, along with Eddie. *

My 3-pickup 57 LP Black Beauty has a bigsby installed. *Not what I call a 'stunt capable' guitar, but I can get some minor fluttering and can pitch up and down now without grabbing the neck and pulling, or using the 'behind the nut' trick. *One of those days I thought I'd snap my old LP's neck off! *I'm glad I got the bigsby. *Pain in the rear to string though.

I have a mongrel 68 gibson sg with a kahler. The thing is UGLY to say the least, very beat up and the headstocks been snapped, but it still sounds weird. Honestly if you dont look at it, you cant tell the difference between it and a strat. it just has that vibe I guess or I would never play it

I remember when Ace Frehley went solo, he had his LP's with trems.....sounded really weak, thin and tinny. He dropped the trems not too long after that

That is not because of the trem. Ace was last seen playing his sig model and it still sound thin, weak and tiny. The reason they sound that way is because he sucks. Neal Schon has been playing LP as well as PRS's with Floyds for years and never sounded thin.

No, he definitley sucks. I saw him a few months ago and it was actually painful to watch him play. He plays worse than he sings. He seems to get worse every year. ****, he didn't even play on most of the classic Kiss albums that were credited to him. I used to be a big fan of his, but after his last performance, there was just no excuse. It actually hurt our ears to listen to him. Most people left the venue saying the same thing. You could hear them talking about it. I guess he is too busy drinking to play. He even said somewhere that he doesn't touch a guitar anymore except when he is on stage....it shows.

I seem to remember Richie Sambora having a Les Paul or two with Floyds installed. I don't see the point... it'd be one heck of a tricky installation, because of how high a Les Paul's bridge typically sits off the body.

But i guess somewhere on the cusp between the '80s hair-metal era and the grunge era, somebody thought a Les Paul with a Floyd might be a good idea.

And forget about an SG with a Floyd... their bodies are just too thin.

yeah, if they weren't, believe me, I would have done it long ago. Theoretically, it can be done, but the trem block sticks out the back. I have seen one though, but I don't know if it was a Gibson SG.

Gibson made a real floyd install on a standard gibson sg for tony iommi once. He never really used the guitar though. I dont think he ever dug the trem bar. More of a novelty I guess. I have a 68 gibson sg, with a kahler trem. That guitar is UGLY. Beat to hell. IT sounds, well odd. Not necessarily good or bad. I also have pictures of Zakk Wyldes old les paul, which had a real floyd on it. One of the guys from slaughter also had a les paul with a real floyd. Ive always though this would be a good concept as the les paul would probably keep alot of low end. But I think I would feel odd using the whammy bar, on a guitar that unbalanced.

I've always wanted to take an original "Black Beauty" or something similar, take my dremil to it and do the most horrible routing job I could and put a floyd rose in it. Crooked, of course.

I *accidentally* watched Poison's Behind-The-Music this weekend. There are a few shots of CC Deville playing a LP with a full Floyd. It's got a funky "holographic' paintjob ("she's very sparkly...very sparkly.."). He's playing it during their live MTV performance- when CC changed the song they were going to play.

Wow- 2 posts about CC gear in one night. The planets must be aligned. :-)
