Gibson SG goes out of tune

I've just bought an SG off **** and its great except it goes out of tune all the time..
The machine heads are Kluson deluxe, are these stock ? perhaps there are there some better alternatives ?

Maybe its the strings they're old and rusty I know i need to change them, maybe these are to blame ?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: Gibson SG goes out of tune

Also when you change the strings lubricate the slots in the nut & the slots in the bridge saddles by rubbing them with a graphite pencil & make sure you wrap the strings properly around the tuning pegs.
You can find info about how to do that on this site if you don't know what to do.

As Robb says, the old strings is the most likely cause but doing the above should help as well and you should have no problems unless the machine heads are faulty.

It is not the tuners more than it is the crappy nut Gibson uses. Check the slots for flaws and width, or have a proper nut cut.

You have 2 choices...or change the tuners...
Or sell the guitar LOL
Just joking...you should see if its not a good time to change the tuners...It wouldn t be a bad idea...

Yup I had an Sg and it would do the same thing from time to time. the string change, the pencil and if that doesn't help have a reputable tech put a graphite or any good nut of your choice in.

The tuners and stuff should be fine though.

Yep, good suggestion, also if you have several guitars may be worth getting some of this stuff: NUT SAUCE.

http://www.bigbends.com/

I use it on all my Guitars & it really does work!

It's a Gibson for crying out loud... it's supposed to go out of tune! Isn't that what they pride themselves on? You are getting the full Gibson experience my friend...
