Gibson SG Question..

I could have swore that about two years ago I played an SG with a slightly darkened Maple Fretboard. Was I hallucinating and it was just a light coloured Rosewood?

Quite fancy one and think I'm going to start looking for one if they don't make them (maple) anymore.

Cheers.

Im pretty sure you were hallucinating. They definately do not make one now, and I dont recall ever seeing anything like that.

Re: Gibson SG Question..

Aside from the possibility that you were playing someones custom you were likely mistaken. I know that there's a few guys who've paid an absurd amount of money for custom les pauls with maple boards. To my knowledge there's never been a production model with a maple board.

Re: Gibson SG Question..

Saved me about 6 hours internet searching, cheers folks.

On another note, anyone got one? What are they like to live with?

And pictures like this annoy me, this look like maple to anyone else?

Re: Gibson SG Question..

Kinda, but it looks more like extremely dried out rosewood to me.

Re: Gibson SG Question..

I cant tell if it's dried out, but it's definately a lighter rosewood.
I had a faded SG which was ok, but for $500 was great, I sold it to get money for a 61 RI, and that is the cat's ass. I went from not really caring for SGs to having one for my number 2 player.

I'd love to get my hands on a Iommi signature. 24 frets and ebony board! That sounds delicious... too bad for those price tags

Says quite a lot, I have you pegged as Captain Les Paul lol. I like the upper fret access on them, and I think at one point everyone needs to own an SG. I'm going to head up to Glasgow next weekend and have a good go of one.

I like the look of the 61 Reissue, but also the GT (which I found repulsive until I saw one in the flesh).

Re: Gibson SG Question..

I was torn between the 61 RI and the GT. I went with the 61 because the 57 classics are my favorite Gibson pickup. The 61 RI with my Orange AD30 is the thickest guitar sound I have ever heard live. To the point where my band doesnt want me to use those 2 together because its too thick.

Make no mistake, Im still Captain Les Paul, but the 61 RI is a damn fine instrument.
