I own a Flying V, an Explorer, and 2 LP Studio's and the only one I've had a problem with is the one that I got over the internet(The Flying V). Which I got replaced in less than an hour upon arriving at the Gibson Dealer. So, if you got yours over the internet, it probably wasn't Gibson's fault. So before you go around saying they're sooooooooo bad, try an actual dealer, because I can almost guarantee you, the Gibson's at the shop will be perfect.
The best les paul I have ever played was an Epiphone. Every time I've tried a gibson I've come away distinctly underwhelmed. The epiphone was better than each and every one of them in each and every way. And thats including a few older models owned by friends and family that really take care of their instruments.

Re: Gibson's quality control...
We all know what comes after the old "The Best LP I've ever played was an Epiphone" response, you get the "Gibson is for losers who only pay for a name".

Re: Gibson's quality control...
Well, I've played quite a few Epiphones, but I still prefer Gibson's due to the fine hand-crafted construction and the hotter pickups. I realize maybe YOU have had some bad experiences with Gibson, and that's believable, but they really are fine instruments, and are made a LOT better than Epi's.

Because of course, the idea that its the truth never crosses the threshold into believability, because YOU don't think it should.

Dude,
Its obvious you came here with an agenda. You wanted to start another Gibson bashing thread. It didnt work, no big deal. Just let it go. Everyone's seen this exact thread a hundred times already.

Re: Gibson's quality control...
Huh? Gibson has quality control? =P
Seriously though, we probably didn't need another thread on this. Plenty of companies have faulty guitars of all sorts. I agree that its a shame to have a $1200+ guitar have those kinds of stupid issues...but if ya buy it and dont like it, simply return it. There are tons of things to rage about in the guitar world: overpriced guitars, "limited edition" custom models that are the same as the regular model costing 1/10th the price but with some kind of different finish or logo, crappy/nonexistent customer service, etc. There's really no point to having a buncha threads about the same thing.
As Frank Zappa would say..."Shut up and play yer guitar".

Once again a reply to a thread complaining that you've been forced to reply to yet another thread you've replied to 100 times already. Genius

Re: Gibson's quality control...
I just don't understand why people buy a guitar with a ton of problems from any maker and then complain about it. I love Ibanez but if a guitar had a lot of problems I wouldn't buy it. And I wouldn't then go to town showing how stupid I was for paying for a piece of crap with a bunch of photos of how bad it is.
Lesson #1: Play it before you buy it. If you do this then you don't have to put up with bad quality.
Don't blame a company for making money off people with out a clue of what they are doing. You bought it, they obviously are giving the customer what they wanted.

What kind of complete idiot would go into a store and buy something that bad? You can take your bias/agenda and go away.

That happens with most Gibsons though, the problem is Gibson players are so giddy at having a "Gibson" that they don't notice the crappy job put into their instruments! Then real guitar players find the flaws and bring it up on the internet.

Unfortunately in my experience the American made guitars are the ones usually with flaws. In Korea, Japan or the Philippines they'll cut a mans hand off for doing a bad job, in America they laugh it off and take an extended lunch!

???
I own a '05 Gibson Les paul classic, I spent about 5 hours collectively playing it and
checking it over before I bought it. The finish is immaculate and it plays beautifully, I
wouldn't have bought it otherwise.
Theses bash threads aren't limited only to guitar forums, however, if I recieved a new guitar
in the condition as shown in the pictures, I too would be pretty pissed off. A guitar should
never leave the factory like that.

Re: Gibson's quality control...
I like Gibsons, and the reason I didn't get one when I was shopping for a 355 was price, basically. The Heritage 555 was better on paper spec wise, and cheaper with a ton of custom options to boot. I'm starting to get the itch for a 'burst LP though, which won't be good for the wallet. If I could only figure out what those R numbers mean....
