Re: Gibson's quality control...
I've bought two brand new LP Standards this year, a USA Slash (from the store) and a faded (off the bay). Now considering both of these guitars are from different ends of the Gibson price spectrum one would assume, from the original post, that I was bound to find problems somewhere... right??
Nope, both fine. Both play exceptionally well. Everything works the way it's meant to and I'm very happy to have some LP's back in the collection.

Re: Gibson's quality control...
I bought my first Gibson this week. An LP Studio Vintage Mahogany in worn brown. It is absolutely perfect. I have pics in another thread. It is totally different than what I am used to, but it has a great tone, is easy to play and there is something about it, which is hard to explain. It's just really cool. I bet other LP owners know what I am talking about. I am afraid I have the bug, and will have to buy more!

Re: Gibson's quality control...
Every Gibson I've played has made me GAS so bad for a Gibson I had to change my underpants. I've never experienced a problem. And I think b!+ching about lopsided dots is a bit overkill. Neck joint cracks are more than common, and man, one little spot on the neck. Does it feel bad? Probably not. When playing you barely notice it.
This reminds me of the Simpsons when Flanders sits around and notes every blasphemous thing he sees on TV and in movies. Nothing better to do than sit around and complain about something that doesn't involve you.

Re: Gibson's quality control...
I just bought a 2007 classic with the 1960 neck.My first gibson ever. This thing shreds. My only complaint is that they don't have a fancy name for the color. They just call it black!

Re: Gibson's quality control...
Now, anyone knows I am not a Gibson "basher", but the fret work on my new Standard was terrible. However, rather than create yet another thread about how much Gibson's QC sucks, I just fixed my guitar and moved on.

Re: Gibson's quality control...
Mine was used and had a couple of high frets leveled right before I bought it.

Re: Gibson's quality control...
Well, my 2 cents...
i have many standard issue gibsons... all fine
BUT the last two custom shop jobbies (both bought this year and both beyond the 3k price tag) both went back witin a week.
I think the original point of this thread is to point out the
terrible quality control
of the custom shop product by gibson.
I agree.
When and off the wall 1200 dollar sg plays better than a 4500 dollar custom sg with a "luthiers" name on it and it has 4/6 tuners broken, bridge piece mounts larger than the screws (wobbles), an uncontrollable buzz that 2 shops in town could not clean up, loose saddles with no way to prevent them from falling out (seriously) and no way to keep the instrument in tune after a string bend, then there is a problem....

Re: Gibson's quality control...
I think the biggest problem with Gibson quality is that they are probably overstepping their capabilities right now. I had the priviledge of touring their factory in Nashville this summer and in many respects it was pretty impressive. However, they are cranking a lot of guitars through that place and that's going to increase the likelihood of issues. Not only just because of the sheer volume, but the more you add volume, the more you have to bring in a less experienced workforce to keep up that pace, and that will add to the suffering. We saw a some things there on the line that you'd hope would have gotten caught at final QC, but I'm sure some things manage to slip through. All that being said, for the volume they are putting through there, that's a lot of inventory and builds to keep track of, and they seem to be doing a pretty good job.
Not bashing or praising them, just saying what I saw.
