Godin guitars?

Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm looking for a jazz guitar instead of the multiple metal guitars I have. Do they play well? I'm looking at the xtSA and I'm curious about the body material: maple with poplar wings? How would that sound?

Re: Godin guitars?

I've played and set up quite a few of them and they're quite well made. Underrated pickups too, especially if you're into vintage output designs. I think they're just 1 or 2 high profile endorsers away from climing up a few rungs in the guitar world. My overall impression is that they're great guitars for the price, with playability far exceeding what you might expect for the money.

Re: Godin guitars?

godin are sweet axes, they don't get alot of love due to them being a little of the beaten path. most people who want a little eccentrcity usually go for a parker. they are really good guitars, solidly built and sound great, too. especially for the money. i love the lg seires and their seagull acoustics are spectacular for their price range. the jazzboxes like the flat five are way ahead of their time, but the reason why they are as prominent is because they don't look traditional. sad really, the myriad of tones and beautiful woods and finishes coupled by their choice in duncans for the higher models are great values.

Re: Godin guitars?

I had the multiac Jazz model (flame maple top). very nice guitar, sweet neck, esp with flats. I also liked the pickup config (normal + piezo) and midi capability.

what I didn't like was the weight of mine- really really heavy, and also I didn't like the way that the strings cut into the body (where they threaded through prior to resting on the bridge). the newer models have the inserts in the body where thee string threads through, but mine did not.

nice guitar, but I sold mine mainly because of the weight.

also, check the one you buy because the build quality can be inconsistent. I saw some that were very nicely made, but also saw a Flat Five that came out of the factory (NIB) with really bad interior tool marks and splinters.

Godin's are great. Like mentioned, the pups are very underrated. The necks (at least the one's I've played: Freeway Classic/Floyd, LGP90, and Exit22) are fast. The finishes in pics do not do justice for seeing the real thing. I am planning on getting a Freeway in the near future!
