Guyatone - Anyone heard of this company?

I know this is pretty much a Ibanez forum, but has anyone heard of this company? Someone told me its a Japanese only company. Anyway I know I'm pushing it here, but I bought a Fender Tele copy about a week ago and the lady in the store told me it's a sixties Guyatone. I cannot find any websites or information on Guyatone vintage guitars and I was wondering if we have any vintage guitar guru's out there who can help me find information or point me in the right direction so I can try and find out what year and make this guitar is?? I Greatly appreciate any help!!!!!!! Scott.

* * * *Guyatone makes amps and pedals....I don't have any idea how long they've been in buisness, quite a while I suspect. Maybe try www.vintageguitar.com * and go to the 'bulletin boards' section. You should be able to find some answers there.

A friend of mine have a Guyatone amp.

Insturments were built in Japan from late 1950 to mid 1970.
In 1948 Mitsou Matsuki founded Matsuki Denki Onkyo Kenkyujo.They produced electric Hawaiian guitars,amplifiers,and record player cartridges.In 1951
they began using the Guyatone trademark for thier guitars.It then changed to Toyko Sound Company.They
produced their first solid body electric in the late 1950's.
Early designs were original but,entry level.Later models
were based on Fender designs and of better quality.
Also imported as Star or Astoria.
Guya was the forerunner to Guyatone.

Thanks Sonofa I appreciate the info!! I've been looking at vintage guitar books but cannot find any pictures. Anyone know a website that has tons of vintage guitar pictures? Thanks again!
