Hard Tail Strats

Quick question to those of you in the know when it comes to Strats.

Do Fender do (or have they ever done) a deluxe hardtail strat? I ask because the only one I could find on their website is Billy Corgan's sig.

No it isn't, it is a blocked off trem - quite a different beast.

Gudster, can't help you with your search but when I was looking for a hardtail strat I ended up with a G&L. It is a brilliantly well made guitar, and out played any Fender hardtail I found.

No Clapton strat is a hardtail. All of them come with a vintage trem that is blocked, just like Eric's.

What you want is a hardtail standard, but I don't think Fender has an '09 model. Check that auction site for a used one, or some left over dealer stock.

I consider my Clapton a hard tail. The trem does nothing! Sure it is not string to wood but not really a trem. For that I have my Floyd Rose equipped guitars.

My search for a hardtail strat ended with me building a mutt. It is basically a Highway One neck on a light ash Musikraft body and a warmoth narrow-spaced vintage bridge. The pups are Dimarzios. Fender doesn't make many strats this cool!

Heh, the irony is that is part of the reason that I'm considering a new axe. A blocked Edge Pro is a pain in the arse, and it does sound different. Every string change seems to be bringing headaches for me. And it doesn't help when you loan it to an idiot who decides to "adjust the intonation so that it gives better harmonics".

I know, I brought it on myself.

Now I'm not very familiar with the Edge Pro, but my Lo-Pro Edge is blocked and it's really easy to use in this format. But I also never lent it to someone who would ruin it.

Theres no intonation tool for the Edge Pro (as far as I know anyway), so when something horrible like this happens you're in for a long afternoon. Not only that though, I just find niggly things with a blocked trem bother me, its hard to put a finger on it. Its a real shame too because when its setup right I love the feel of the Edge Pro under my hand.

I suppose my ideal bridge is the Edge FX, but alas Ibanez only use it on one procution model.

I know, he's a real rocket scientist. The position of the saddles look like someones EQ settings.

Anyway back to Strats. I could have sworn I played a Sunburst USA Deluxe Strat with a hard tail at a mate of mines a few years ago. But it wasn't his guitar and he can't remember the name of it. Texas Special keeps springing to my mind but I have no idea what model it was.
