Has anybody here played a Rick Turner Model 1?
I've wanted one of these guitars for a looooong time, but they're not terribly common on the used market. Finally, an opportunity to purchase a loaded Lindsey Buckingham model has presented itself, but I've not had the chance to actually play any of Mr. Tuner's guitars in person.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

If you don't like it, i'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble selling it and getting your money back. Those are sweet-looking guitars, and Lindsay Buckingham can sure make 'em sing.
He's suc
h
a great player. I've got a live MP3 of him playing "Big Love", just vocals and guitar, and he's absolutely brilliant.

Darren, that's on a classical guitar - I've got the DVD.
It's called "The Dance" and I urge you to buy it.
You'll thank me later.

That version of "Big Love" was done on a Gibson Chet Atkins solid-body classical. Very cool!
As a surprise, I took my wife to see Fleetwood Mac this past Tuesday. I was lucky enough to score front-row seats. I was simply enthralled by Lindsey's performance, and my desire for a Turner was reawakened. He's SUCH a great, underrated player!
The guitar I'm after has a AAAAA
flamed maple
top and piezos, so...it'd definitely be versatile enough. Other than those two things, it's identical to his all-mahogany models.

Well, after having done a bit more research, I decided to go for it!
I sent Mr. Turner an e-mail with a few questions, and he was kind enough to write back within a couple of hours! He's made fewer than (350) of the guitars since 1979.
This particular one has every option with the exception of the abalone body binding. Should be a tone monster!:

I have played one very similar to the one that you are getting and I have to say that they are nice guitars. The build quality is VERY high, and there are a million different variations of tone in them. They can take some getting used to - there were alot of knobs and switches on the one I played - and they have a really unique feel to them. However the Turner neck is very nice - big and chunky like a
Les Paul
on the one I played....
Enjoy it!

Well...here it is! I can honestly say that I have NEVER been more pleasantly surprised or overly impressed with a guitar!

The build quality is better than the PRS Dragons that I've played. The
piezo bridge
is second to none. It blows the Fishman system on the EB/MM JPM away. Without a doubt the MOST versatile guitar I've had.

Those Turner Model 1s are sweet!
I have to admit, I've wanted one for a long time, but the costs involved have always put me off. That flame is beautiful, but I'd happily settle for a wood-grain mahogany a la Lindsey... I hope you get a lot of years out of yours!
