Help me find a guitar in NY to buy!

Hey guys!

Basically, a friend of mine is going over to New York for a few days this weekend.

He has offered to bring a guitar home from the US for me, woo!!

It’s a great opportunity, so I wondered if anyone could help with finding a bargain in New York?

Used, preferably.

For example, a PRS or JEM for $1000, a Strat for $400, etc.

I would love another seven string though…

By the way, anyone in NY or around who has anything for sale, get in touch

Tell him to go to Bleaker Street in New York City, there are LOADS (and I mean LOADS) of used guitars in music shops there, you're bound to find a gold mine. Though, most of it is probably junk, I think that's where the Edge (U2) got his Explorer. You could find some real cool stuff in there.

Do you mean "Bleecker" street?

If so, then yes, if I recall correctly, there are several good shops in that area. Personally, I'd check out craigslist new york so you can check out used deals that wouldn't be listed anywhere else.

Also, remember that when visiting New York, never pronounce "Houston St." like Houston, TX. It's "HOUSE-ton"

you might get a PRS CE (bolt on) for around the $1000USD mark, but I think you'd be awfully lucky to pick up a Custom 22/24 for that! My wife brought me back an Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi Reissue from NY - cost about $1800AUD in total - as compared to $4000 to buy one locally here in Sydney!

Check the prices in a couple of NY stores against what you'd pay in the UK - you should get a pretty good idea of what is good value for the exchange - the US tends to have a lot of secondhand gear on the market, and for some reason, generally resale value in the US is lower than anywhere else (I guess you guys like shiny new guitars?) - unless of course you are looking at a '57 Les Paul!
