help me identify a fender strat

hi! i have the possibility of purchasing an american strat. problem is i don't know a thing about them! i have a serial number. can i tell if it's really american by the number? the serial in the headstock is the same as in the plate? any other tips are greatly welcome. (like..american strats have this thing while mexicans don't and so on) thanks a lot

Normally, the country of origin can be determined by a serial number. Also, there is just about always a stamp stating where the guitar is made.

A lot of USA Strats have "Made in USA" either on the headstock or at the heel of the neck where it meets the body.

current american strats say "corona california" right on the neck plates, i dont know how far back this goes though. for all i know they could have only started doing that last years
