Help me track down this Strat

Hey all - I was at a music shop and this strat caught my eye. It had three single coil pickups that looked like they were cast in a resin of some sort - they were a slightly off white colour, and it didn't look like they were screwed into the pickguard - it looked like they were mounted into the body, as the pickguard kind of went around the pickup screws. Also, it had a strange bridge - a non-locking trem but it looked like a bass bridge - longer than a standard strat bridge. Also each pickup had a rubber-encased button, and these three buttons were mounted near the tone/volume knobs. Anyway - I've never seen anything like it. It was going for about a grand used (Canadian $). I've thought about it being a modded strat, but I think it would have needed some major routing for the bridge, and a custom pickguard. And I couldn't imagine a modded strat selling for $1000 used. Anyway any info would help.

Could it be an old Fender Elite?

Ty Tabor used to play one back back back in the day...

Well done!! Thats the guitar - the one I saw was sort of a light bluish/beigish/greenish colour. But yeah - seeing those pictures reminded me of the volume/tone knobs - they definitely had the rubber grip around them. It was a nice looking axe!

They looked like the pickups from the one in the top picture. I forgot to check for a battery compartment . . .
