Hendrix Strat Sold at Christies

Hendrix's guitar, a 1968 Fender Stratocaster with a sunburst finish that was modified to accommodate his left-handed use, sold for a staggering $168,000, well above its pre-sale estimate of $80,000 to $120,000.

wow - i'm speechless. that's some serious cash for a '68 strat that i have never even seen a pic of Jimi playing. guitar was probably bought for a couple hundred originally - nice investment for someone i guess.

That's quite cheap if you ask me ( well it's not, but for a piece of history )! I'd love to own something like that, play it like it should be played.

Yeah but Blackie was to Clapton what Evo is to Vai, This Hendrix Strat was just another guitar owned by him, not like the Monterey strat.

Well the talk about that strat was that Jimi had owned it at one time, thats all. Blackie on the other hand was Eric's main guitar for years. The Hendrix strat that everyone wants is the black one that was kept at Monika Dannemann's flat where Hendrix died.

It has never come up for sale.
