How do I take the body off my Fender Showmaster?

I'm getting a sweet new Ibanez, so I'm thinking about taking the body off of my old POS Fender Showmaster. I might spraypaint it a different color. If I wanted to do that, should I sand the rest of the guitar before I decided to paint? Any advice? How would I paint the headstock?

i think spray paint would look really bad.... even if u sand it down then spray it it wont look like i normal guitar colour... i think solid colours for guitars are air brushed.. im not sure though........... im not sute about showmasters but i think all fenders bolt on necks the screws are parrel in a square but ibanez's are different
