Re: how does esp fair against ibanez?
I would rate most of the lower end ESP LTD series to the Ibanez Gio stuff I think...the LTD stuff being a little better.
Maybe that's a bit harsh, maybe more like ESP LTD = Ibanez RG2xx, Ibanez RG3xx...
(speaking in terms of the low end LTD stuff, some of the higher end stuff is considerably better...)
I've got a Lynch LTD Sunburst Tiger that plays and sounds as good as ANY Ibanez that I have owned...the secret is almost entirely in the SETUP.
Then again; some of the very early LTDs had better hardware than the same model produced a few years later...

Re: how does esp fair against ibanez?
I've had a chance to play a couple of ESP's and I enjoy them a lot. Personally, I am leaning towards an ESP SV as my next purchase. I have 3
Ibanez guitars
, but just recently anything Ibanez has put out hasn't been very exciting...unless I had $6000 for a Jem20th

Re: how does esp fair against ibanez?
I always used to want a Kirk Hammett ESP when I was a kid. I think the real one is called the KH-2. I wonder how nice they really are.... The skull and bones dot markers are cool.
I have pretty come to the conclusion that production guitars can only be so good. After a certain point you are just paying for some aesthetic nonsense or some gimmick. But Kirk is one cool MF! Metallica was the Jimi of my generation and inspired many
guitar players
from that time. So getting his
signature guitar
is like what a blacky reissue or or some hand painted Hendrix monstrosity would be to the older folks...

You have to pre-order ESP Original series guitars. They're built to order from the
custom shop
. But it *is* possible to get it in a different color, but you pay extra for it. I had a MII-DLX in Italian red from the Original series and it blew away every Standard series MII-DLX that I could fine in North America. It came stock with stupidly low micro action(and no buzz) and I never had to adjust the neck! (original series models also have the carbon reinforcement rod which the standard series don't have)
I've LOVE to own an ESP MV-QM.. I was soooooooooooo close to getting one once but then something turned up and I ran short of cash. Anyone (mostly North American ESP dealers and reps) that says that the Standard series is the same as the Original series never played a real Original Series ESP next to their standard series counterparts.
Honestly, if I ever had the option to be endorsed by Ibanez or ESP, I'd go with ESP any day. Of course that'd be an endorsement deal with ESP Japan not their American counterpart in which case I'd go with Ibanez.

Erik, you and I think alike.. One day.. just ONE day.. I'll have one of these. (of course I'd have to fly over to Calgary so you can try it so you can convince the missus that it's what you want your next gift to be)

Re: how does esp fair against ibanez?
Im actually eyeballing ESP over Ibanez these days. I think the Kamikaze Easter Bunny needs to pay me a visit.
Also, the fact that ESP has a currently functioning custom shop is win/win.

The ESP Custom shop has one of the fastest turnaround times in the market. A complete guitar can be done in under 3 months!!! When it comes to custom shop efficiency, ESP has most of the competition beat. I should also mention that pretty much any model from ESP Japan can feature a custom color, different hardware colors and pretty much everything is available left handed(all at an extra cost). The bad part is that this ONLY applies to ESP Japan and NOT ESP in the US.

Re: how does esp fair against ibanez?
Do all the Horizon FR II come with the same inlays?
I love ibanez guitars, played them since i started
playing guitar
, but the FR II look so far ahead of whats currently on offer.
I could live with the inlays, but to be honest i'd prefer small dots or blank.
