I finally tried some Les Pauls the other day / GAS

... and I was disappointed! Granted, I didn't try any high-end Gibsons. But I think I expected too much. I tried:
Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded: Good guitar, one of the best LPs I tried. It lacked what I was looking for though.

Gibson LP Studio: Good guitar too, but I did NOT like it at all. My friend who was with me FELL IN LOVE WITH IT haha.

Gibson LP Studio Raw Power: Now, if it wasn't for the looks, that's the LP I would buy. sounded good, and had some balls!

Epiphone LP Standard: Hated it. I didn't like the sound and it definately did not feel good.

Epiphone LP Custom 3 Pickups: Worst LP I tried.

Epiphone LP Custom: Not bad at all!

The reason I tried all of these is because, after playing on my friend's Hagstrom Ultra Swede, an LP shaped swedish guitar for €420, I felt like Slash. The guitar had attitude, sounded great, and played itself. I've never played a more melodic solo in my life* and thought I should try (and maybe buy) a Les Paul.

Anyways, since then, I've been suffering from MAJOR GAS and I need help!!! Its that time of my life again. I NEED A NEW GUITAR! Ive been in Germany for 6 months now, and I've only got my RG with me. Not even an acoustic!

Not to bash Gibson but...I really don't like their stuff. I've played dozens of LPs (literally, dozens) over the years at friend's places, jam sessions, guitar shops, etc etc...and they all fall short in several major ways. I do however really like the look and sound of LPs, so I'm getting a guitar built now that'll have all that but fix the "issues" (in my eyes) that LPs have.

My thoughts on Les Pauls.

1. Over Priced
2. Not Always easy to play
3. Heavy (Hold one on your back for 2 hours!)

But I will tell you this......You should own at least one good Les Paul!
They Sound SO GOOD! Especially in the studio for rhythm tracks.
Fat and Meaty! Something about them.

I just can't see spending 4 to 7k for a Gibson Les Paul! Thats insane!

I know I should own at least one LP but... I think I should own at least one strat and one hollowbody guitar too. So after this LP experience, I think LP will come 3rd in this list.
And the best thing about it? Im a student. This is going to take a loooooooooooong time

ive always wanted a jon sykes sig les paul but with a £3000 price tag its a no go.as for epiphone i cant stand them,cheap rubbish.

2002 was a great year for Standards. See if you can get one used.

Les Pauls have the thickest sound and sustain of any guitars. Nothing quite sounds like a Les Paul through a cranked Plexi.

But of course though, everyone here wants to play a guitar with pink pickups through too much gain.

You know recently I've been getting away from shred more and more and getting into the type of tones an LP puts out. But the shape is just so uncomfortable for me. Everything else is great though.

1= agreed expecially in my country

2= you need to study more cause I can play the same in any guitar, that's why I don't care about neck expecifications etc.

3= Dude you really need to get into sports LOL

To have a complete guitar collection, you have GOT to own one like that!

p.s I dont, but my main guitar is an RG550 in RFR with Evo2 and Breed pickups. And I barely play with too much gain.

p.p.s "too much gain" means to me "anything more than dirty blues or fusion"
