I got this for $15.

I'm driving down the road, and some dude is selling a guitar on the street. I check it out.. ask him how much it is.. and he says $15. The neck felt decent, and the bridge is a Khaler made in USA. Plus the artwork on it is AWESOME!!!! I bought it!

Check it out:

Its a Hondo DX-1. From what I googled, theres mixed feelings about this brand. Its made of plywood, and the trem is missing some parts. I'll work on it and find out how it plays. Theres no serial # anywhere on the guitar. If anyone has any info on this guitar, feel free to share! I'm hoping to spend less than $100 to fix it up and make it a player!

Do you mean Honda, or Hondo?

One of my first guitars was a Hondo Explorer, and it wasn't too bad, until my brother got pissed at me and stomped his foot through the neck and body.

Lol I just realized I put Honda instead of Hondo! I changed it.. even when I went to google it I put in Honda on accident.

Damn!!!! Little bros are crazy. I remember I had this rare japanese game for the ps1 and one day he was pissed off at me and scratched the hell out of the CD making it unplayable!!!! Ahhhhhh

It was actually my older brother, and considering he's 6'4", and I was like 12 at the time, there wasn't really much I could do about it!

I remember this guitar. Well not this particular one, but the paint job is bringing back memories. You can't go wrong for $15.

I'm going to do some wild stuff with this guitar when I get some $$$.

Things I want to do:
-I want to shave the neck down till its thin as a Wizard. Call me crazy.. but the neck def. already needs to be replaced anyways, so why not have some fun!
-May change out the trem and make it a hardtail.
-Locking tuners
-Blue pickup (dimarzio of some sort)

I was going to strip it down and swirl it.. but that dragon is so damn cheesy I just gotta keep it!

Re: I got this for $15.

Cheap necks are great for scalloping, and if your modding it you might as well go all the way. It's even better if there's less than 3 dead spots

Also, it's just me, but i'd sand out the logo (or paint the whole thing over) on the headstock, make the edges slightly pointier and then (if you want to) plop on a different logo, such as Jackson. I mean, its already a similar shape and it'll fool most people into thinking you have a high-quality guitar.

Why cheesy? It is totally classy. There is no need to call it cheesy

Am I to understand that this was the actual paintjob they sold it with?

I bet this was the equivalent of the hardtail jem to the guys over on hondosite.com!

Still, you can't go wrong for $15 and I definately own worse!

Check this!

http://hphotos-snc1.fbcdn.net/hs272...._4252090_n.jpg

Its been sitting but I was bored the other day so I suited it up. I threw in a Ibanez V7 in the bridge.

1. It sounds awful. The body is made out of plywood and I think the neck could be too, just the fretboard is maple.
2. The neck doesn't feel that bad... it's playable.
3. The intonation is way off. I have to buy special $7(plus shipping) allen keys to adjust that.
4. It stays in tune for about 3 minutes then it's out. There is supposed to be a top lock for this thing but a replacement for that is $40, and it needs fine tuner knobs which are special types that cost $7 each. So I think the best thing to do is just replace the whole thing for a fixed bridge.
5. It hums loudly and I can't figure out why. I've wired up a bunch of guitars and tried to troubleshoot it but no luck.
6. As far as I'm concerned, any adjustments to the truss rod don't work.

So if someone really wants this guitar (like the 2 offers in this thread) them PM me lol.
