Info on the Jackson that Steve Vai uses in Crossroads - ...i

Where Steve Vai is starring as Jack Butler.

Ok, I know it`s a red Jackson with black painted headstoc to cover the "Jackson" thingy *it is H-H and has a locking trem. The fretboard is rosewood, a little lighter than usual maybe some special rosewood or just old...
That`s all I know, I wanna know more about it...

Ok, thank you!! =) You guys seem really nice!
Anybody know if Steve Vai actually played the guitar? Or did he play/record the duel with another guitar?

That guitar is in the Houston, TX HardRock Cafe (at least it used to be). *It appeared to me to have a Chandler neck on it. *The body may have been a Jackson I do not know. *I don't know if he actually recorded the music with that guitar.

Supposedly the body/neck on that guitar were both Chandler. The rest was Floyd/Dimarzio/Schaller I think.

I remember from an interview loooooooong ago that they had to paint over the Jackson headstock to avoid any legal wranglings with the then gigantic entity that was Michael Jackson (seems silly).

* *The fretboard/neck on that git was maple.

I heard that rumour too but it's ridiculous... Jackson is a registered trademark of a guitar manufacturer, and little Mikey could cry like the Queen and no one would pay him any attention - there's no legal grounds for him to stand on!

I don't know about the guitar your seeing in the movie.

The part that Eugene plays was recorded by Steve using a telecaster. For the other part, that Steve also plays, I have no idea what guitar he used.

All slide work was done by Ry Cooder

*I'm pretty sure the actual headcuttin' tracks (sans maybe the clean classical part) were done on the Charvel "Green Meanie".

if you got a good tv and a good tape, you will see, when Steve pull the guitar up, that he shows the neck-joint plate: it's a Charvel plate, defenetely, hence, i think, a Charvel neck.

i also think that the whole guitar is a Charvel, since Jacksons are all neck thru versions of Charvels, and viceversa.

Nuno,
I've always said it was a Charvele since Dweezil has a green one with the same knob/switch layout.

Anyway it doesn't matter anymore.

I heard that Vai used a Tom Anderson guitar for the track so he could fret out th estring on the pickup for the 29th fret note

No, the last thing was on the telecaster, last note was the metal neck pu of the tele...
A guy on Jackson/Charvelforum told me and it seems to be correct...
