I'm thinking about sending mine out for a custom paint job. I have the black with yellow bevels model, and I'm curious, does the old paint have to be taken off first, or can they just paint right over the existing coat? Will too much paint effect the tone? And just where DOES that Clark Kent go when Superman's around. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Painting over a perfect paintjob will suck, and will be prone to "rub off" because the new coat of paint will not adhere very well to the original coat. Unless, of course, the new coat of paint is the type that would "bond" with the old coat.

Believe that most shops would recommend at the very least, sanding the original coat to allow the new paint to adhere better.

I think that too many coats of paint will have little impact on tone.
