Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

Careful with scalloping and sanding to wizard specs together, might take a lot of resistance off the neck...

And post pics when its done!

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

Update -
The neck is finished and polished! That ebony board looks great and he managed to keep the side and top dot markers intact with deep scalloping. I was concerned the ebony might have striations as he dug into it, but it was black all the way in.The black Evolution is in, but the single coil covers are still creme- those have to get replaced along with the knobs and position switch cap. A bar was installed behind the nut to hold down the strings and the back of the neck was shaved flat and thin, then sanded and polished. He said because the Podouk wood is so dense, he could shave it down further than a maple neck. I'm trying it out today and will post a pic or two after work tonight...

I would think you might want to go with a humbucker in the neck, or at least a loud single as Evolutions are loud. Play with it a while and see if it works for you with H-S-S first though!

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

That sounds really nice. I wanna try and play a padouk neck, how does it feel? I'm thinking of doing a custom project with padouk as one of the neck materials. Congratulations.

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

Here's a pic from yesterday's Policeman's Summer Party gig. It shows the scalloping pretty clearly....

Still want to pop hotter middle and neck single coils in, but this guitar worked out great at the gig.

All hail the mighty scallopped one.....(just kidding- check out this pic)

The luthier asked me how severe I wanted the scalloping- I told him to have fun with it.

Re: Jem/Yngwie-izing a Strat

UPDATE:
The original Fender Custom Shop "Abby" pickups in the middle and neck positions just aren't hot enough to compete with the Evolution in the bridge.
I've done my research and chose specific pickups...
so back into to shop it goes for a Duncan "Duckbuster" in the middle to retain somewhat of a strat tone in the middle position and a Duncan "Little 59'er" in the neck, which is basically a PAF humbucker in a single coil shape-both in black of course.
Plus, he's going to polish out the body as he did the neck- he says the padouk wood will really show off the grain and stryations once polished out.

Can't do much more after this other than explore wiring architectures, but I'll post picks once it's done.
It should be a nice ax worthy of keeping when finally done....guess we'll see.
